Probably a "kneejerk reaction" on the GC, but I really love those necks, and the price, well...... I'll keep you all posted on the rehab process. Not sure it will get to New Hartford, or need to. |

| Worth the investment regardless, maybe the crack is just in the finish, save the top anyway... |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | That's my intent. My '82 Collector's has got some nasty, albeit repaired, fissures, but sounds great.
I'm probably close to "critical mass" in terms of critters vs. available space, with incoming projects. I'm thinking the 1117 may have to move out. Case has been repaired, and the patches repainted. Custom mosaic rosette. Those Legend necks, though.....you know what they say about gals with thin wrists, right? |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | OK, an update.
The critter has arrived. The crack is through the top, just off the center joint, bridge-to-bottom. A-bracing, 1974 manufacture. Moderate top "dive", with no saddle adjustment left- good candidate for a "bowl-bend", I suspect.
I'm going to commune with The Wizards & Alchemists @ The MotherShip, and determine if they opine reasonable feasibility of repair.
The OHSC is in very good shape, and it has a piezo under-saddle pickup, also.
All-in-all, I'm very stoked, and feeling a delightful glow of larceny. |

The "V" points to the treble side, and there are 5 small braces arrayed inside the "V".
Does that sound more plausible? |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | The Wizard has spoken. I might have to mortgage Toto. I'm thinkin' I may just string up the critter (the guitar, not the dog), and play it for awhile. I already have a magical 1127-4 redone at The MotherShip, so I'm attempting to gild the lily, I suspect.
Worse case scenario is I totally screw the pooch (the guitar, again) with my shadetree luthiery skills, and have to send it to New Hartford, anyway. |

That's where I am at with the 1537 although I have recurring thoughts of doing it myself.
Maybe if I watch a few more of those Trading/Wrecking Places home shows on HGTV I'll feel better about letting the Pros handle it!
Enjoy! |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | Paul, esentially they recycled my 1975 1127 neck. I have a new AAA top & bowl attached to it. With A-brace patterning. And, I have an autographed label by some of The Wizards, to boot. I opted not to install a preamp. It's the best playin' gitter I own, or have put my hands on. The JW shinybowl comes damn close, though. And, for totally different reasons. |

To answer your finish question you emailed me (which is at home right now).
"Aircraft" stripper removes poly but also removes binding and inlays! Needs a lot of ventilation and is highly caustic. If you remove the neck and pop the bridge I'd just use abrasive to take it down.
Wear your filter mask. Poly in the lungs has a long lasting effect and it isn't a good one. |

12 Steps of O&A/A
1. We admitted we were powerless over
GAS—that our lives had become unmanageable (without another guitar).
2. Came to believe that a collection of guitars greater than our own could restore us to sanity. (yeah, Right!)
3. Made a decision to turn our will and credit card numbers over to the care of AL as if we understood him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our guitars, and how much fun they are to play
5. Admitted to CWK2, to ourselves and to another OFC Member the exact nature of our GAS.
6. Were entirely ready to have AL put us down for a OFC model when they're available.
7. Humbly asked Him to hold our checks until after payday, and not to tell our wives.
8. Made a list of all persons we had given GAS to with our guitars, and became willing to help advise them on their next guitar aquisition
9. Made direct efforts to help such people (with the OFC, AL, Ebay links, etc)wherever possible, except when to do so would jepordize an amazing deal on a guitar we've been waiting years to get our hands on.
10. Continued to take a personal guitar inventory and when we had GAS promptly sought/traded to fulfill it.
11. Sought through the OFC, Al, and Ebay to improve our collection (even if that means trading and selling off a few guitars to make room for something new), hoping only for knowledge of a great deal when we see it and the assets to aquire it without hassle.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this
message to WOOD BOX guitar players, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Amen. |
