Thought a new thread would be in order, I am selling this beautiful guitar for $600 to the first person interested. I had it on ebay and almost lost it for $380 :( but then the girl who won it wanted to trade another guitar for it,I took the advantage to cancel the sale and she agreed. :)

So now maybe I will have someone who knows the value of this guitar and can appreciate the condition it's in.

Wow, I\'m confused about that auction you\'re talking about...

No reserve, No buy-it-now, but the Seller provides their email address for contact on the buy it now price.

The Seller is experienced with 356 feedbacks received from buyers.

It takes the bidder almost 2 1/2 days to realize they entered the wrong amount

anaislily1969 bid $800...... Nov-10-06 21:46:09 PST
anaislily1969 retracted bid Nov-13-06 8:53:21 PST Explanation: Entered wrong amount

They then bid a lower amount.
anaislily1969 bid $380...... Nov-13-06 08:54:27 PST

And then they win!
anaislily1969 wins auction @ $380 on Nov-15-06 18:05:11 PST

I have seen bidders ask about trades prior to bidding, but after winning an auction?

Maybe I've been around too long, but with over 600 eBay sales, we have not had one winner offer up anything other than money.

 :( :(

Noah,
I admit it was odd but I welcomed it because I didn't want to let it go for that price. I didn't question the winner too much because the truth be known I didn't want to sell it for $380.
Not sure what you are talking about a email address for a buy it now????? maybe you are confusing the winner with someone who offered me $750 via email which I refused, why did I refuse it? read the other thread it will explain it.

She changed her max bid from $800 to $600 and won with $380, I can understand her changing her mind and didn't want to go up to $800 so she changed to $600...why she waited until it was over to offer a trade who knows but it gave me a out which I took.

Noah, are you trying to imply something?? if so just say it and I'll gladly correct you.

I'm glad you are all having a good time with this but stuff happens..........lol

Now I'm even more confused

"She changed her max bid from $800 to $600... I can understand her changing her mind and didn't want to go up to $800 so she changed to $600..."

I can see her original max-bid of $800 because it is revealed in the Bid Retraction, but where do you see her new max-bid of $600?

The bidding did not go over $380, we have no idea what her max-bid was

In the Question and Answers, the Seller says, "Contact me at eaglepi@cableone.net on the buy it now price."

 :( :(

The buy it now price was a response to another person who wanted me to take it off ebay. She told me that she retracted her max bid of $800 and changed it to $600, she didn't want me to think she cancelled her bid altogether.

what I am confused about Noah, and I don't want to disrespect you because I know you are a very respected person in this forum and I am the new guy but why are you digging into this so deep, you are over reading most things that happened. If you look at my name, the PI stands for Private Investigator. I am reading into your posts that I may have done something shifty, I don't play that game and if that is your point I take exception to that.

The facts are I didn't want to let the guitar go for $380, she bocked and I used that to cancel the whole deal.

Hope this helps you understand better.

Eagle, you are very lucky to have gotten out of it that easy. Most bidders will follow through on their commitments after the auction is over. (especially at that price) As they say, you really dodged the bullet on that one!

I live on the Minnesota / North Dakota border, I retired to to health reasons last year but was licensed in North Dakota. I know I was very lucky to get out of this deal with my guitar, She said she would pay for ir after I said no to a trade but I said I didn't feel comfortable with the whole thing and felt it best that we cancelled the deal, she agreed and I was happy about that.

I just don't appreciate that someone is implying that i did something shifty, I may be over reading into Noad's post but you know how chat or emails and post can be.. the reader may read it totally different than it is meant. I just want to make it clear that I did force the deal to be cancelled but that was all I did.

There's enough abuse to go around for everyone, no worries!

Even though that Pacemaker is one of the nicer ones the $380 on Ebay is about what they go at. Having your reserve set is very important.

I was hard on you as you approached the end of your auction because I get the same way as the time approaches. It can be tough.

I would like to extend all benefit of the doubt and I hope to see you around as a regular member here but I'm with Noah. Many of the behaviors and items you bring up I find alerting. Time will tell and I hope I'm wrong. If you take an objective look at this whole post, profile and auction you would have to agree. You don't have a means of knowing how much a bidder really entered. It looks like you were fishing in the OFC waters. I hope I'm wrong.

My ebay rules include setting my reserve and time parameters and holding off to the end. I have tried unsucessfully to sell certian items because I wanted more than JQ Public wanted to pay.

The OFC is real people.

Sorry OFC ?? not sure what that is? you guys are spitting out genetic terms, say what is on your mind. what is it that you think I may have been doing. I can't address anything that isn't direct and to the point.

The facts are I had a guitar on ebay and it sold for a lot less than I wanted , I didn't set a reserve price, I never use them. She showed me that she wasn't too sure about the sale and I took advantage of it by cancelling the sale because I didn't want to let it got for $380.

I know that I can get $600 if I just be patient. You guys seem to be wasting a lot of time and energy in trying to say I did something wrong, don't beat around the bush just say it and I'll address it.

Ebay is a fickle place. I've had auctions close with no bids, but then I relist and boom, it sells right away. Hard to predict what'll happen. Dave

Right Dave, last night I watched an auction I had high bid on, fully expecting to have to raise it. 4 hours later, I won it for my original bid. Funny place that Ebay.

Thanks, I've been on the hunt for an 1114 or a 1614 ever since I stupidly sold my last one. It looks nice in the pictures, hope it does when it hits the doorstep.( and I get the correct strings on it!)

Stick with us. This isn't the first post to wander off topic. As far as the ebay thing goes, more than a few of us have been bitten by a bad deal and we are a bit gun shy as a result. Don't take it personnally. If you are on the level then no harm no foul.

Stick around. We have a good time.

I'm not worried about Ebay, as one of you noted I have 388 feedbacks so I have been around Ebay for a while.

It just concerned me that some suggested but never said that I may have done something wrong... that is over and past, now I just want to sell this beautiful guitar.

I'll be here until it sells, if I played I would be here everyday it's a great place.

The BIN with the "Make Offer" is a great way to safely hold an auction. Paypal has a lot of benefits in the protection of Buyer and Seller. Ensure that only Verified Buyers can end your auction.
I am sorry if I came across harsh. I was seeing things with a little paranoia maybe. I have been getting daily second chance offer via email on items I either already won/paid and received or completely foriegn crap. There is a tremendous amount of predators out there.

Wait until I go to sell something. You can tell me to lighten up then!

No, but its a good thing. I attended a two day Workshop and got the bug to play electric by listening and learning from Ben Gowell (Paul Baloche Band).

The Viper is perfect for this.

Now all I have to do is get a hold of a Boss TU tuner, Boss DD20 delay with tap switch, Compressor, Chorus, Tube Screamer and a Tremolo!

That and learn how to play guitar...

"I was seeing things with a little paranoia maybe."

To me, "a little paranoia", is just a heightened sense of awareness, or commom sense. Attention to detail, noticing things out of place, and pattern recognition, are observation skills that can keep you out of trouble.

That winning bidder, anaislily1969, has an eye for vintage Ovation guitars. Maybe she will drop by and straighten everything out. Until then, I guess I'll remain confused about the anomalies in that auction.

Noah you keep this paranoia going with false statements, when everyone else accepts what happened. Who says that anaislily1969, has an eye for vintage Ovation guitars, maybe she was just looking for a guitar and changed her mind. You're talking to a Private Investigator who is well aware of "heightened sense of awareness, or commom sense. Attention to detail, noticing things out of place, and pattern recognition, are observation skills that can keep you out of trouble."

If you are worried then ignore me and my posts, the sad part is I doubt you even are interested in my guitar, just wanting to cause others to worry for nothing.

If anyone else beside Noah is interested in my guitar I will ask her to come here and post her explaination as to why she asked to be let out of the deal with my coaxing... As for Noah, relax and stop trying to cause problems

eagle, I have only brought to light anomalies I saw in that auction. You, and everyone here, knows that I have not made any false statements.

If bringing to light the anomalies of that auction causes you a problem, then I am truely sorry, but it is what it is.

I agree with you when you say, "everyone else accepts what happened"... I think we all see it the same way.

Why don't you relist the guitar on eBay with a $600 BIN w/Make an Offer?

Noah,
My plans are to list it here and let someone who appreciates a Ovation guitar have a chance to buy it.

It would help if you kept your opinion of anomalies in my auction to yourself. You are implying without say that something was fishy with the auction which is totally false, you've also made untrue statements, you don't know her expertise in Ovations yest you stated that she had some.

If you are not interested leave it alone it's none of your business.

The OFC is all about having an opinion. I have had several and will, no doubt formulate and share one or two more in the future.

My opinion at this time is that you are one of two possibilities:

A) a new OFCer that really loves his 1615 and holds a high value on it's worth. You made a rookie mistake of not using a reserve and then talked a not-too-committed Buyer into letting it go. Easy enough to understand and not too far from some of my actions at times. I recently attempted three times to sell a nice Viper for $700 and repeatedly the market said they would not pay more than $500.

Like the intro says, Ovations don't get the respect they deserve. You have a very nice Pacemaker but I would be amazed if it goes for more than $500 in an open market. We know they are Worth more but the market sets the Price.

B) You are a fly-by-night Seller that dropped in with the sole purpose of selling your instrument in an online board full of Ovation enthusiasts. You used the "Hurry-up before somebody else buys it" venue (figuratively not literaly) of bull on at least three occasions and you have vehemently brushed back anyone that said "Wait a minute, is this for real". The offer for $750 was either a scam in the making on the Buyer's part or your part because it never came to completion.

The proof will come in time and I would be more than happy to apologize if Option A is the end result.

I recently had a good friend with his third kid on the way get bilked for $2700 because he was honest and expediant in his transactions. If I see the signs in a rtransaction and I don't say something, I will feel that I have let down my OFC Brothers and Sisters.

Hang around Eagle-pi. Get to know us. There are several OFCers I would take a bullet for. Hopefully small caliber and in a meaty part but all the same.
I trust Noah and I see what he sees.

You mess with the Trailer park, you mess with the whole trailer park.

Prove me wrong.

eagle, I am not stopping anyone from buying a guitar. I actually help members acquire guitars. If one of the members here wrote me and said they had to have a guitar, but could not pull it off, I would help them as much as I could.

So the only untrue statement is that I said, "anaislily1969, has an eye for vintage Ovation guitars". I assumed that she "had an eye for" them because she was feverishly bidding on one. I did not state anything about her expertise in Ovations. I am glad that you know her so well and can attest to her lack of expertise in Ovations. I stand corrected.

We talk about eBay auctions all the time here. Our observations about anomalies in auctions help some of the inexperienced bidders from being scammed, buying guitars with undisclosed issues, overpaying due to shill bidding, etc, etc.

We try not even to play price police here, but I can see that some of the real experts gave you their opinions of what those guitars have been going for. Members try to guide others and help others from making mistakes.

If you came here to just sell a guitar, I will still be here long after you are finished with us.

This is the last time I will address this issue, I stated that I didn't play guitar and got this one from someone I know. My ONLY desire is to sell the guitar so where does someone go to try and sell a Ovation guitar??? maybe a Ovation lovers forum, a unqiue idea huh?

As for me knowing the winning bidder ( once again implying I did something wrong ) I know her better than you because I have communicated with her about the Ebay auction. Her feverish bidding was 3 bids......lol

I didn't use a resever price because I was offered $600 from a guy at a music store when I had it checked out, I said no, why? because I felt I could get more on ebay.

I came here to let "Ovation lovers" my words, know of the auction at first it was a nice place to visit, would I come back?? who knows back then. I have received personal messages from some of you supporting me against the attacks from Noah and his buddies.

If I fall into any category it is "A" I chose not to use a resever price and when the winning bidder showed me the littlest bit of doubt I took it and ran with it because I didn't want to sell the guitar for $380

Not sure what more I can say, that is the true and for those of you who don't believe it then so be it....

Thank you for the ones of you who have been supportive on my behalf. Maybe Noah will find someone else to pick on soon and I can go on with the sale of my guitar

Tupperware,

Like I said I don't play the guitar I only came here to let people who like Ovations know I had one that I was selling. What is so wrong about that, if it hurts your feelings I'll come back time to time and say hi...

eagle, I am not picking on you. I only brought to light anomalies in an auction that are identified as classic red flags in eBay tutorials about safe bidding. If you search the archives, this is not the first time that red flags in an eBay auction has come up in a thread. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck.

Sure  Forward them to me and while you are at it, have anaislily1969 get hold of me. No one has attacked you. If you view my posts as an attack, you must be hiding something.

I was offered $600 from a guy at a music store when I had it checked out, I said no, why? because I felt I could get more on ebay.
If you want that $600, why don't you go back to that music store and take them up on their offer? That appears simpler then putting up with us idiots that know nothing about Ovations. You evidently feel you know more then us, because you felt you could get more on eBay. You were obviously wrong and your bidding shows it.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just go back to that music store and take their $600

So I guess that, no comment, means that you backed yourself up into a corner with your own story.

This guy is not going to give up! anaislily1969 just became the OFC's newest member.

Welcome anaislily1969!

Why bother the good folks here. I look forward to exchanging private emails with both of you. Or maybe even a conference call.

WOW, how cool. Just when Ali is backed into a corner by a Frazier stinging jab out comes Angelo Dundee with the stool and spit bucket.

Eagle, I'm sure you are a fine person and I mean you no ill will. It's a fine line when you join a club such as this for the sole purpose of selling your guitar. Some will see it as a wonderful service that you offer to people that you know are passionate about ovations. others will see it as being opportunistic (sp) and just using the OFC to benefit yourself. Anyway, good luck with your sale, either here or on ebay. maybe you'll get what you're asking. Good luck with anaislily. One word of advice, I would highly recommend that you not have your children sign in and come to your defense. All the best. Dave
