| With much hesitation I am posting this question, As most of you know by now I don't play the guitar however I am thinking about adding guitars to my Ebay business, whenever I can find one I will see if I can buy it and resell for a profit. Now I know some of you will think that is like the devil but we all have to make money somehow and I have chosen Ebay.
Now with all that out of the way what is a Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CS245 worth? I haven't seen it yet but it's local so I can go look at it in the morning, the seller wants $450 and I am offering $350 he says it has a few minor surface cracks. Are those common or should they be a red flag?
I would like to be a member of this forum but my reasons are different than most of you, I hope you can understand. |

Cost/benefit ratio. Calculate the differential in sale outcome between A/E & acoustic-only. If you could do a bit of "bodywork", the preamp might significantly increase the purchase outcome, and speed.

Location: ranson,wva | thanks chris,hell who knows? i was planning on selling the 1567ssb but after i got it home and unscrewed all the screwups,its now one of my favorite players. i didnt like how the black top came out so i took the black paint off and im gonna level the glued crack the best i can and say to hell with it. ive got a op24 here packed away somewhere and ive got a stacked tone/vol that i think i can rebuild the circuitry in it..i wanna use a thinline pup because i dont wanna route the slot and the thin saddles sound better unplugged....ive got a few options with it...
ive got give or take $200.00 in it including the nice brown case and probly 60hrs of work in it.jason |

The reason why I shop on E-baaa is to get a good deal. If some-one snags a good deal, just to sell it for a profit, that kinda defeats the whole purpose... Y'know?
If I wanted to (or could afford to) pay full price, I would just go to one of seven music stores in my hood, and get one. And probably get a discount on later fret-jobs and straps.
Think about what the other people on this site's priorities are... And look-up "Community" in the dictionary.

that is how everyone in this country makes money no matter what business you are in.
I see nothing wrong with all of you Ovation collectors collecting them but everyone wants to make money. If you think people on Ebay don't buy low to sell high you are mistaken.
I'm not forcing any of you to buy the guitars I plan to sell, I only try to let you folks know in advance before listing on Ebay.
I really don't understand all the hate I feel here in this forum. I do understand you all have the right to state your mind and I am willing to listen, I'll response if it makes sence to otherwise I'll just let the people who read and don't post as much judge what is going on. |

As far as buying and selling guitars... well, I think you have a half baked idea there... if you don't know anything about guitars and don't play, how are you going to evaluate guitars prior to buying them? |

As for dumping "stuff" the Model 115 is a beautiful guitar as many of you stated already so dumping is the wrong word. Just face it Noah, you implied I was doing something wrong on Ebay and I asked the winning bidder to come here and explain in her words to prove you wrong.
You claim to be a Ebay experienced seller so you should know that a Ebay sellers reputation is everything and your attempts to question mine was uncalled for.
As for my half baked idea.....lol I'll get the info I need before buying to resell don't lose any sleep over that ok?? ;) |

An email and a post are not too convincing. The more you give me to work with, the easier you make a confirmation attainable.
After reviewing my comments, I never questioned your eBay seller's reputation. I believe that the anomalies of the bidding and the auction's outcome are not flattering for the Seller. |

Sure, Pacemaker is a good guitar, maybe $250-$400. Glen Campbell is an excellent guitar, maybe $300-$750. Custom Legend 1158/1658 is a great guitar, maybe $700-$1,200.
This looks like it is in good condition but it is still on the low end of the Ovation models.
Bottom line, I really doubt that you will get over $400 for it. No, I am not in the market as I have the Custom Legends. And, is it worth more? Yes. Will you get your price? Hope that you will.
The members of the OFC are probably more knowledgeable about Ovation and Adamas models than the typical buyer. Offer a guitar for market value, might get a buyer. Yet, often a guitar offered on the OFC doesn't find a buyer and has to be listed on Craig List, eBay, or whatever.
Noah is a respected and knowledgeable individual about Ovation and Adamas, as well as other guitars. He, as I, are skeptical (and, for good reason). Newbies don't win in a war with words.
Somehow, you have alienated a number of OFC'ers. My suggestion is that you take a deep breath, then consider how you can start over. This is an amazing group - knowledgable, considerate, wierd, off-topic, etc. Sometimes takes a thick skin, often a supportive group. Take a look through the archives (vault) and you will see the soul and heart of the individuals and OFC as a group. |

| Tony I saw all of that until Noah suggested that I did something wrong on Ebay. The fact is he was dead wrong and his thoughts should be kept to himself unless he can prove something he says.
He may be respected by many of you but not by me because he wasn't man enough to say exactly what he was thinking he could only imply.
Once again he was wrong, I even had to ask the winning bidder to come here to explain herself to prove I did nothing wrong.
I know there are good people here I have heard from several who are not involved in the threads.
In every Forum there are a select few who are trouble makers, Noah in my opinion is one of those. He had his opinion of me and what he thinks I did and no matter what I did to try and show him I wasn't what he thought, he kept on implying that I was.
All I did was come here and talk about the guitar I had for sale, I was offered $750 and thought about ending the auction early but someone ( might have been Noah ) suggested that I should not do that since I listed it I should leave it and let the bidders determine the value. I did that, I found out later the $750 was a scam or joke.
I was offered $600 by the music store I had it checked out at and may sell it to him if I can't get more.
I respect your opinion about the value of the guitar, I never wanted to come here and fight but Noah wouldn't let it rest so I fought back.
I'm a former PI and I take my reputaion very seriously.. So I ask you where do I go to get my good reputaion back???
If Noah would keep his wrong thoughts to himself you wouldn't see me act the way I do towards him.
As far as you being skeptical I can't control that but you have handled it with much more class than Noah.
I won't just sit here while someone tried to ruin my reputaion... |

Location: SoCal | eagle, Please go back and read every post that I made regarding that auction. I only brought to light anomilies in the bidding and auction outcome. The issues I noted are classic examples of red-flags that are pointed out in eBay tutorials on Safe Bidding.
I did not draw any conclusions or attack your reputation. I had nothing to do with your auction or the thread that accompanied it. As far as the $750 you were offered, you should go back and read that thread, I was not there and someone else was advising you.
I have reviewed every comment I have made to you or regarding you, and I must say, I have been much more respectful to you than you have been to me and others. I have also read the disrespectful responses that other members have made to you, yet you are not crying to Tony about what the rest of the gang has said.
You say, "he wasn't man enough to say exactly what he was thinking he could only imply". You are wrong. I said exactly what I was thinking and I did not judge you. These guys will confirm that I am the last person to write someone off. There is a difference between trying to make sense of irregularities and accussing someone of wrong doing. If I show you an irregularity and you immediately interpret it as an accusation, that is your problem. My opinion is that your excessively defensive posture created the situation that you are in.
If you really believed that "Noah" was your problem, you would have contacted me privately and we would have worked out any issues. Instead, your attitude was, "I don't have to prove anything to anyone", but then you set out on a crusade to prove everything to everyone.
