This is one I swore on a stack of Maxim's I'd never part with: My Sunburst 1537. Part museum piece, part one of the damn best wood topped guitars Ovation has ever built!
You know all about the 1537 so I'm not going to go into details. The guitar is immaculate! No lacquer cracks, no nicks, dings, no wear, NOTHINIG. There is one erasure sized mark in the front near the edge that you'd never see from 2 feet away. Neck is perfect, no wear at all, no tarnish on the gold hardware. Binding is perfect, etc., etc.
I had removed the 2 knob electronics from this guitar a few years ago and had been playing it as acoustic only. But last night I put the electronics back in, new battery, and everything works perfectly. Actually I was amazed how good it works! Action is low and fast with no buzzing. I just don't know what else to say about how nice this guitar is. Even includes the Glen Campbell signature truss rod cover.
Sadly, as nice as this guitar is I just can not justify keeping it. It gets no play at all and it's such a special Ovation that it should be elsewhere in this club. Yes, I will regret selling it, I always do.
So here's the deal. There have been some bargain 1537's and fixer uppers lately on ebay. My guitar is NOT one of them. If you're looking for a project, look elsewhere. If you want a pristine museum piece of Ovation's history in perfect working condition and 9.99 cosmetic condition with like-new hard shell case then drop me a line. $1200. delivered to your door in the USA.
Additional photos and details of this guitar can be found HERE.

Without a doubt, the burst (for some reason) make these guitars sound even better. |

The sound that comes out of these gives a tingly sensation!!!and makes you hair stand on edge!!! |

How could you do it Dave? Regretting it already? Its a sad day in OFC history. For penance you must buy another 47RI.
On the other hand, Jim, good get! |

I also regretted selling others (shiny bowl balladeers, josh whites, custom legends, hurricanes, thunderheads, a fretless typhoon, ultra-GP, etc.). But they are just guitars and I had the honor of owning this 1537 for some nice years of enjoyment. Time to move on. Funny you mention buying another 47RI. That would have been a bargin compared to some of these other possibilities.
It's funny how tastes change. When I joined this club way back when, I only had wood topped Ovations. I had no interest in Adamas, thought they looked silly. But over the span of 4-5 years I've collected (and fallen in love with) quite a few nice Adamas and at the same time have almost purged all my wood topped Ovations in favor of other guitars. I never would have predicted this happening.

Surprisingly, I may own the record for quickest sale. I sold an FD 14 to Stephent28 in (as I remember it) approx 4 minutes.

We've seen a few black ones and of course all the natural ones. But has ANYONE ever seen a NUTMEG? It's listed in the catalog, but I have never seen one myself. Think about the nutmeg finish on the John Lennon Legend for example. THAT must be a great looking 1537.

There were a LOT of Ovations and Adami that I didn't care for in the least. I didn't like the baby blue of the Adamas tops, koa, or even the oak leaf rosettes. Many of them I now think are beautiful. |

And here I thought I was the only one. You couldn't get me to even look at that blue Adamas. Now I look at mine on the wall, and I see the work of art that it is. |

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm proud and excited to be picking up Dave's 1537. As many of you know, I already have a very nice natural 1537 (which I will have to sell as part of my agreement with the wifeboss). I didn't tell her I was buying the same guitar. That would have been too hard to explain. I just told her it was an upgrade to a collector guitar and a keeper. I think I caught her with a little of residual Christmas spirit. But it all worked out.

Location: Phoenix AZ | The TRC was added for sound, not looks. It has a special rubberized backing. The effect of mounting the rubber backed TRC on the headstock is to subdue the modal-frequency interharmonics. In laymans terms it significantly improves the sound - more ring, sustain, depth, ...

Location: Louisville, OH 44641 | It arrived today! WOW. Best guitar per dollar I've ever bought. Dave's pictures are nice but they really don't do this guitar justice.
Now I'm waiting for that giant stack of Maxims to show up. $200 of the guitar price was for the stack of Maxims Dave swore on when he decided to sell this fine guitar. When Dave told me how big the stack was, it comes out to $.25 per copy. LOL.
Thanks Dave. Great guitar for both tone and beauty. A classic.
