Location: Houston, TX | Hi there,
I am new to this board. I have an Ovation Custom Balladeer 1862 in an ovation hardcase that I'm looking to sell. I'm ashamed to admit that after I purchased it in 1996, I failed to learn how to play it :( It has sat in the case ever since and has been played approx. 2 times a year when musically talented guests come over.
Anyone interested in buying it?
XOXO

i suggest you post some nice photos if possible and state your asking price. another option is decide now, after 11 years of thinking about it, to take the plunge and learn! :D |

Location: Houston, TX | HAHAHA. 11 years. feels even worse to see it in writing.
well, the first problem is that my "friend" talked me into choosing said guitar and learning to play right handed (I'm a leftie). He was a guitar player himself, so I think he had alterior motives! ;) I am extremely uncoordinated with my right hand, and found it to be nearly impossible to learn that way.
the second problem is I just bought a house (my first) and I need the money to put towards some new furniture.
I do have a lefthanded guitar (a Seagull) collecting dust as well if I ever do decide to learn. hehehe.
I don't know a thing about what to ask for it. Any suggestions?
It looks exactly like this one.

From what I've read on the boards so far, I think that price is a bit high.
It has the Ovation hardshell case with the blue fur also.

Location: big island | where's that "friend" today? sell him the guitar or hit him over the head with it for his ulterior motives.
congrats on your home purchase! is it a rightie or a leftie home? probably ambidextrous...
the ovation will not suffice for a comfortable piece of furniture but it does make for a pretty wallhanging, especially with the super shallow bowl.
speaking of bowls, it would probably make a nice planter box for your new digs.
i've heard seagulls make better dust collectors than ovations do, so sell the seagull and trade your rightie ovation for a leftie one. and keep it out of the closet.
there are many seasoned ovation enthusiasts on this board. i'm full of ovation enthusiasm but not very seasoned. i will leave the question of what you should ask for the guitar (not the seagull) to another. i imagine it is in near mint condition?
best of luck! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Check ebay for some comparable sales. I agree that Elderly's seemed high, but somebody seems to have negotiated a deal for it. Mine was lots cheaper, but it has some finish cracks. A wild guess, maybe $300 to $400. |

Reality would be somewhere in between this and Elderly's.

Location: Houston, TX | Thanks so much for the advice. Was thinkin of posting it on Ebay with a reserve of $275. Would that be reasonable? Also, I'm a little nervous about its condition since I don't know much about them. Is there any test I should do on the electric components? Like I said, it was barely used, but I would hate to have an angry buyer because I'm ignorant. Considered listing on Craigslist so the buyer can see it in person. Any thoughts?
XOXO

P.S. It does have one small crack to the side of the center sound hole. I have photographed it, and would include that in any listing. |

I'm also new in this board but I think that I'm going to give a nice advice. Try to post it overseas to Europe, for example, if you really want to make some money. Yesterday an Ovation Custom Balladeer 1862 ended for 455 euros ($580)
Item number: 190078380472
(how I wish to live in America to purchase a nice ovation for me)
Good luck! |
