| Be interesting to know how many 1538's were made. The serial number says it's an '84.(Wonder if they ever made any 1548's?) This may be one of the most collectible Ovations except for an original Adamas. Nice guitar for a 'no reserve' auction. The add says it's an original case. I didn't know they provided black cases in 1984. |

| if I hadn't just bought an 1885 for a ridiculously low price...(delivery tomorrow)... I'd be all over this one..
I should probably just grab the Adamas and head to the gulfcoast for a few days..
Good Luck to All.. one of you is gonna be happy with it I'm sure.

Location: Atlanta | Grif kindly invited me to your boards, and I'm grateful that he's provided some exposure for my eBay listing through this post. I'm sad to have to sell a guitar this unique (pitiful financial situation), but hopefully the timing is right for one of you enthusiasts to give her a good home.
I really can't say too much about the history of the guitar. The previous - and original - owner told me it saw very little playing time during the last years of his ownership, and that's pretty much the case with me, too. I played it a lot when I first got it some 8 years ago, and then it just sat in my office looking nice for several years as I worked way too much.
Good luck bidding, and hopefully I'll be back again when finances improve!

Location: Warren,Pa. | On several occasions a guitar has been "adopted" by someone in this club. This happens when someone is in financial straights for a time and needs cash. There's sort of a gentlemans' agreement that, when the seller gets back on his feet, he buys it back.
Of course, if you've fallen out of love with the guitar, best to just sell it.
Steve Chapman had a good experience with this. Got his beautiful blue 12 string Legend back in a year or so.
Just a thought. John <>{ |

Location: Houston, Texas | It just went out of my price range, damn! This would really make a nice brother to my 1537. I've been thinking about a 12 string for sometime now, but I've been playing too much electric lately to pursue one. But the GAS was starting to get to me on this one. Somebody's gonna get a nice one here. |

Nice grab 'Zilla. We are all awaiting your report.
True story - I had the seller ready to deal at $900, but his wife said hold out for the auction to end. Good call! We talked about it and I told him it was hard to see where this one would go. 12 strings are all over the place on the 'Bay.
Joe, I hope everything works out for you and that the proceeds from this sale put a big dent in your troubles.

you may want to talk to hudley about his tobacco burst 1758 12'er that he listed. $530.00 is an excellent price. |

Location: Atlanta | Congrats, Designzilla and sorry, CrimsonLake and BluesSailer. Wish I had several 1538's. That was indeed a last-minute bidding war. I'm having to listen to the wifey's I-told-you-so's now about not ending the auction early, but it was worth it. Thanks, folks, for all your interest and help. Hopefully I'll be back in the near future on the other end of the exchange!

Location: Houston, Texas | Thanks Randy, I'll take a look. The sunburst would'nt fit as nicely with the 1537-4 I have, but that is a nice price.
'Zilla, nice going! I've been so impressed with the sound of my 1537, that this 12'er would've really been a nice addition and if it even comes close to the balance and output of the 1537, then you've got yourself a really nice guitar.
When I first saw this auction I thought I could never afford it, and that turned out to be true. But today when I looked it was still in the $600 range. But before I could even place a bid it jumped to over $800 and my hopes were dashed.
We'll all be waiting for a report and detailed pictures! Way to go! |

My wife says that all the time. I'm used to it after so many years.
It is a happy ending, Joe got a good price, as did 'Zilla, and the guitar is within the OFC, one of my main concerns.

Location: Orlando, FL | Sorry guys (not really!) and thanks Joe! I'm really excited about this one!
I was at work today and I got a call from my wife around noon. She asked me "Are you going to bid on that 12-string?" We had talked about it over the weekend and she remembered the auction ended today. I was really interested but you can blame my wife for talking me into it. Ok, it didn't take a lot of convincing. I love my 1537, so I am really excited to see how the 1538 sounds! |
