I'm wanting to jump on the TAK EF75 bandwagon, but am on a in/out basis.

For sale is a 2006 collector's edition. This guitar has no scratches or dents. VIP preamp in excellent condition. This is one of the nicest grain pattern on a 2006 that I have seen. It is the one on the August 2007 OFC calendar. The wood is quite a bit darker than the calendar shows.

I would like to get $1500 plus shipping with OHSC. Please let me know if you are interested.

HERE is a high res version of the file below.

WOW. Tom, you know my first reaction would be "why sell such a great guitar". But then again, you know what I think about the Tak.

Good luck with the sale. That's beautiful grained Koa. Somebody will be very happy with it, that's for sure.

Dave

PS - Slight thread hijack. Tom, if you want to talk about the EF75 let me know. I'm totally hooked.

Thanks Dave,

It really is a great guitar. Full body sound with deep bass, bright trebles, especially in the open chords. It sounds great with lights but booms with medium strings that can really get the koa moving.

Unfortunately, this one just doesn't fit into my collection. I play cootie to cover the full sounds and the Millenium when I want the bright and melodic sound. I have the Legend for a daily beater (Legend LX as a beater??? What am I saying?)

I am interested in trying a wood box. The last wood box I had was a $100 Ibanez that made my fingers bleed. I built a StewMac kit, but can't get the neck set right and don't like the 1 15/16 neck width. With all the talk about the TAK, I'd figure I'd try it. I'm waiting to see if Al gets any more in.

I was fine until I looked at the picture!

Then I looked at the high res one...

All I have to offer is my 2003 1778LX/case with a ding on the top and a Faux Limited/PD/HB/Mutt in gold with gig bag. If anyone wants to work though this we could have three satisfied customers.

Koa has a way of grabbing me. I think I have a problem...

That is gorgeous, but I can totally understand wanting a EF75...they are just hard to beat.

I still think the 2006 is one if the best collectors i've played. I think it may have gone over looked because most folks around here wanted specs closer to the OFC guitar.

OK, gonna lower the price to $1300. If nobody wants it, it is going to ebay.

Just a little bump. I have this listed on Ebay with an opening bid of $1000. Only one guy has made an offline offer of $750. No way I'm selling this for that little. This is a beautiful guitar for $1000.

Here are two reason that you shouldn't accept $750 for that...
Reason #1
Reason #2
But I'm sure you know this...

$1300 is a good price, then jump on the Tak if you can find one! Best guitar on the planet for the money! The Brazilian on mine is beautiful and straight. The Sitka top MUST be Master grade. No runout and the tightest grain I've SEEN on a guitar.

It is a TONE MONSTER and a joy to play! Mahalo Lanaki!

Mark

$1000....ouch.....my sympathies....

Anyone else noticed that the 2005 and 2006 Collectors seem to be getting a huge buncha "no respect" in the used resale market? I can't believe what I've seen used 2005 Collectors (I own one I bought new) go for.

Yep, I took a hit on that one. However, it does soften the blow for the new one and still upholds the one in one out policy.

The only other offers (other than Woodster's trade) was one for $650 and one for $750.

I find that utterly incredible. Clean used guitars are usually good for 60 to 70% of new street price. Doesn't seem to have been the case with the 2005 and 2006 Collectors.

How on earth is Elderly ever going to sell the NEW 2006 Collectors they have priced at $1999????

IMO, after years of "Collector's" editions, I think the whole idea is worn out and may actually de-value a perfectly good instrument.

I mean, every year is an unknown entity of design, wood and electronics. Some have had their share of problems ('97 electronics comes to mind). I think a lot of people had rather stick closer to proven models.

There's a 2005 on ebay for under $500 and no reserve. We'll see what it goes for in the next little while.

$811 for that 2005 Collectors. What is it about these guitars that they don't retain their value?

I'm not the most knowledgeable Ovation fan, so I honestly don't know.

I bought a new 2003 Collectors for $675 from Musicians Friend. It was one of the "refurbished" models.

I haven't monitored all of the Collectors models closely enough to make a statement genearlizing all of the Collectors models, but I don't understand how a COLLECTORS model (that should get premium tonewoods, electronics, and appointments) not retain its value.

Regards,
Mark

Big generalization, but I would say based on what I have observed over the past few years the average market for used collectors series is less than $1000 range. Maybe with the exception of the '87 which has a reputation of being the best sounding collectors ever. Obviously there are exceptions. For more detail contact you local price police. Dave

I got my 99 for $260 plus an old Celebrity Deluxe with a big finish crack. I guess I'm part of the problem. The 87 and the 2004 have flaws in the finish, so they were also below market price. Many supposed collectable items don't hold their value any better than any other similar used items. I think the collector market for anything is just too fickle or emotional.

I think Goober's got a good point, each year's combination of features is a bit of an unknown. That proved to be a good thing with the 2002 Collectors, the slim "electric" neck is unique.

I paid $950 used for my 2002 Collectors, point of reference.

The only "special" thing about the 2005 is the contour bowl, and that was passed on fairly rapidly to the Legend and Elite series, which, I must admit, irritated me quite a bit. I wouldn't have bought the 2005-ES if I had had an inkling that was going to happen (the speed with which it passed on....it was a given that it would eventually).

After the 2005, I won't consider buying another Collectors NEW.

History shows that what shows up in the collector guitar is usually rolled out the following year in mainstream models. Examples - Optima preamp, inlaid epaulets, super shallow bowl, OP-Pro, contour bowl, ...

To me there is nothing SPECIAL about the collectors series other than the opportunity to be the first on your block with one of these new features. You'll pay dearly for it and next year your neighbor will be able to buy the same feature in mainstream guitars for a lot less. Your choice.

My personal opinion they should DROP the collectors series as an annual guitar. It was a good 25 year run but it's out of gas. Introduce special, collectable models in limited quantities only when you really have something worthy. Maybe it's 3 models this year and nothing else for a few more years. Imagine a songwriter that has to publish a new song every Friday. The pressures on. Pretty soon they all start sounding the same.

I'm actually a huge fan of the Collectors' Series. New features or not, I just like the concept of a limited run. I may not like every edition, but the ones I do like are the objects of unnatural (though purely platonic) affection. (Those of you with pithy, vaguely vulgar, supplies of innuendo, try to stay on task here.) :p

I do wish though, that they might mix it up a little style-wise. The only real genre difference in the last several years was soundhole versus epaulletes. I loved it when they took a huge leap from form and put out the '97; still one of the coolest guitars they've made.

Wouldn't it be fun/interesting/cool (pick your exclamation) to see say...a nylon string Collecotrs'...or a Viper-style...more slotheads...or 12-frets? How about a Collectors' mandolin/mandocello...maybe even with an oval hole?

I've often wished I had the money to custom order things like this.

As far as paying for it new or used; those who can buy new will usually continue to do so. People like me will be forever hanging from the rafters of eBay waiting to waylay unsuspecting and poorly written advertisements from people who don't know what they're really selling. ;) :D
