yes. this 1581-7 is coming to my house. the seller says it is in excellent condition and has not been played much. he is moving out of the country soon. (i hope he doesn't move out before he sends me the guitar!) i was ogling the guitar last week and thought the $2200 price was way high. i got it for half that when he accepted my offer of $1100 after it was relisted. i am probably going to compare it with my W597 and sell the one i like the least. i hope it has nice acoustic volume. may opt to switch to an OP24+C to get an on-board tuner which is nice to have for gigs. still keepin' an eye out for a nice loud, warm wooden box with strings attached. mahalo for the applause, even if you weren't sure it was for me!

Hope the audition went well! We look forward to pics, but really want to hear you play it (can you say You Tube Redue)!

Location: big island | having possession of this 1581-7 for a bit over 24 hours now, i am most impressed with its sustaining bottom end giving it a warm, acoustic sound. it doesn't quite sparkle the highs as much as i like. i installed new elixir nano light/medium phosphor bronzes soon after i got it yesterday. when i picked the guitar up out of the case i heard what sounded like loose wiring inside. all i found was a loose washington! it appears the only play this guitar got was from a white cat, whose hairs i found on the soundboard. no hairs in the case, thankfully. at first i thought the guitar had the distinct aroma of a cavendish pipe tobacco blend. that smell eminates from the interior of the guitar only and is not on or in the case or anywhere else on the guitar itself. i ain't sure what it is. perhaps just the unique smell of the materials used back in '91?
the guitar plays like butter. i lowered the action by three custom-made joker card shims and left two of the original shims in place. it is in unplayed condition and complements the 1688 12'er very nicely.
acoustically, it sounds much warmer and louder than the W597. IMO, the W597 with its OP50 has a plugged in advantage over this one with the OP24. the W597 is an awesome "electric" guitar!! i'd really like to keep them both, but have decided to list my W597 in order to help our family's cash flow with our upcoming trip to the mainland in june.
i'll offer it here first, if anyone is interested:
i purchased from brother bobby at best price guitars online about 7 months ago. it was listed at $1999.00, however, i paid $1550 including shipping. it is still in almost new condition with just a few very light pick scratches. no other issues. the case has a couple very small blems.
i'm asking $1100.00 plus shipping (about $60.00) to recoup what i paid for the 1581. will post on eBay at a higher price after a few days.
please pm or email me if interested.

Is that what is called grass in Hawaii? I have never seen blades so thick and long.
Great deal that you are offering on the W597 but it seems that my funds are in the renewal stage at the moment. Otherwise...GAS ATTACK!

Location: big island | after conducting A/B comparisons over the past few days, i have come to the conclusion that the only thing the 1581-7 has over the W597 is volume. the clarity, sustain and full spectrum sound of the W597 surpasses the 1581 both acoustically and plugged in.
i'm now in the throes of deciding what my fickle self is gonna do. i am decidedly very particular about how the sound of a guitar falls on my ears. the 1688 12 string absolutely does it for me. its got it all: ease of play, the warm lows, the sweet mids and shimmering highs, volume and sustain for days all wrapped up in a package so beautiful to behold.
i don't know about the concept of us floating around in heaven strumming on harps but i've already got mine :p
if i can only find the illusive 6 stringer that offers all of these characteristics, i'll be a very content man. |

You and I lucked out to land a couple of them. Either that or our ears are made of cloth and we are blinded by the beauty of woven cobalt blue :-)
Shame the adamas 2 isn't a 1681 as the color match is great for the 12 I got from Mike. |

clarke (haiku), who lives on maui also has a W597 cobalt that he likes alot.
you'd rather have a 1681 because it is non-cutaway and has double epaulettes? |

Location: Lebanon, TN | Pretty much, the cutaway is very nice but I never really play up the neck accoustic. I have rather fallen for the full bodied look and it would match the 1685-7. There is a teal one on Ebay at the moment with a BIN of $1250....I am severely tempted. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Great pair of guitars Randy. I have the same cutaway and plan on upgrading my Custom Legend 12 to an Adamas 1 when a great deal comes my way. I too have always loved the looks of that cobalt, and almost picked one up some time ago, but I decided it would be just a little too greedy to want to have ALL the Ovation and Adamas guitars.
Congratulations! |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | Just another comment ... I really like the unplugged sound of the -7, but for some reason the electronics doesn't seem to do it justice. I was thinking about trying to see if there was a way to hook up one of those Fishman condenser combo-setups. (dont remember the name of it ..Rare Earth?? or something like that) Anyone have any ideas of how to capture that great acoustic sound for performances??? |

which -7 are you referring to? the 1581 that you have in -8 color?
if so, i'd have to agree that the OP24 just does not do it justice.
i'm also tempted to add a treble epaulette and drill some holes!! |
