Location: boulder | fantastic guitar needs home. 1968 glen campbell artist model, textured bowl-artist depth
(which is larger then shallow, smaller then medium depth..) ACOUSTIC ONLY. ....Sound wise this guitar is tight. great rich highs and mids, sharp, clear-subtle lows (But deep bowl this is not). Just a a little tone machine.
THE LOW DOWN: this guitar was ill. It went to the big brick building in Connecticut. Diagnosis was a new neck, which was perfect since the reissue 1627 was being built-which happened to have the exact neck needed. Mike at the factory did a bang up job, and turned a lemon into something special.
So...
The tuners that came with the guitar were put back on. They are grovers-not sure if original, but they work fine-hold tune.
The neck assembly (neck, fretboard, frets) is brand new-feels 100% fast and comfortable. top is AAA grade spruce from 1968. wing tip bridge/blue paper label F-105 s/n...'A' braced, 25 1/4 scale 1 and 11/16" nut width.
a couple of dings on top. one ding near lower bowl edge caused a finish crack about 1" long. finish crack only. Please see pics.(last pic-go to eft side of bridge -follow straight down-about 1" from bowl edge is a ding, which made a finish crack to the binding.)
hard shell case included, but not sure if it is original either . it does protect the guitar.
$720 plus $30 shipping in USA and $120 shipping overseas. paypal or us postal money order. And a new neck assembly is $450-another one of my buy high, spend money on, sell low ideas...
thanks , pm is cool, I iwll keep trying to check it...thanks mike |

Location: SoCal | Mike, this is a beautiful guitar. If I wasn't buying the OFC guitar, I'd probably pick it up. The Ovations from this time had a wonderful sound. Tony Calman has one from the same time that I've played and it's a great guitar. Good luck with the sale.
My only other comment is that I don't think the guitar was built in 1968. Guitars from that year were all shiny bowls with the 5 point rosewood bridge, and the GC was still the GC Deluxe Balladeer. I think (and I'm guessing) that yours was built somewhere from the summer of '69 to early '70, when the transition was made to the GC Artist, with the winged bridge. Also, I would guess that your guitar doesn't have A bracing which the 1627's didn't get until the late 1970's to early '80's, but probably still has the X bracing pattern. Tony's guitar is the same. Like I said, a great guitar.
Good luck selling it. This is one you're going to miss. Somebody's going to buy a great guitar.... |

Location: boulder | Good morning all,
Whoops, Moody is right (that just sounds funny).. It is a 1969, during the transition period. I think I will check the bracing to be sure, as I read that from ovation site.. But it is a sweet sounding guitar now. Glen Campbell really did know what he was doing... |

Location: SoCal | At the January NAMM party at Paul's, I brought my 1127 and the 47RI...believe the 1127 was played more than the 47RI. Not by me, everyone else was playing it...I had to borrow one of Paul's.
Kim said the bracing was a modified ??. Whatever it is, it doesn't match the bracing diagrams that I have seen. It just wants to pull you onto the back porch to do some serious pickin'. It out plays my shiny Deluxe Balladeer AND 1537.
It is that good.
And, I believe I bought this one from Mike when the neck had a problem...only problem was the neck. Beautifully aged top, a guitar that any of us should fight for and treasure. |

That GC sure looks nice. Did you ever check the bracing pattern? It's got to be the earliest artist bowl guitar that I've ever seen.

Location: boulder | Dave, Is that because you heard the story of my dog eating my wallet (with the cashiers check inside that I was going to buy a new car with that afternoon) ? (thanks, btw)
The bracing pattern I am guessing is the 'A' pattern after all. many little strips, with two flairs.
And i just noticed it has two small (about 1" long) finish cracks running with the grain coming from bridge. I think they were always there and I never noticed. But I need to go change the ebay ad. peace, mike |

Location: Phoenix AZ | An F braced guitar would also have the perpendicular brace just south of the soundhole. As far as I know only Taylor uses the F bracing pattern. At least that's the way they sound. Dave |

Location: boulder | Oh well this a little embarrasking. But earlier I was looking at my 1119 instead of the 1127. (hey they all look alike after a while).
So there is No finish cracks on the 1127, they were on the 1119-which Is why I never noticed them on the 1127. But they do both have the 'A' bracing. perpendicular brace just between bridge and soundhole (underneath of course).
So, I still have the 1119 custom legend, I now have a 1619 going up for sale, and I will be listing a adamas u681t-A, as in acoustic only. One of only 4 made as fas as I can tell.
And a lentz ssl, and a cp thornton and even my blue breadwinner-and even possibly my book Viper. a shiny balladeer, a beat up josh white and a 2005 collectors. Maybe even my 1687-RI.
Let me tell you, it was more fun buying then it is selling. (I.S.H.L.t. J.)=I should have listened to jeff-less is more.
thanks everyone, peace mike |

Mike, I hate to screw with your mind, but your 1127 couldn't have "A" bracing. Ovation didn't develop it until the mid 70's. It either has "X" bracing or something else. Tony Calman has an 1127 of the same vintage and it's got something else I've never identified. All I know is that it is one great sounding guitar! |

Paul,
I can work with the 1127 has something else.
as far as screwing with my mind, oh man, get in line...i didn't fall over the edge-I ran to it and jumped.
my three biggest mistakes in life (so far)..
1) wanted to wash dishes for minimum wage, instead of going to medical school at Yale like me mom wanted (I was really smart a long time ago-really)(and she went to YAle)
2) didn't listen to jeff when he said less guitars -more practice.
3)never had sex with the hot 22 year old waitress who essentially said I could -( I was 19)
3a) see #3, just change 'hot waitress' with any living human woman who actually gave me a sign for sex. (damnit I swear it has happened)
luckily i drink a lot of water before bed, so i don't get the dry sobs as i cry myself to bed. |

At the NAMM party, again hosted by Paul and his wonderful wife, Kim said it was a XX (I don't remember what he said). Not an A or X, no bracing on treble side of the soundhole.
It makes you want to go out on the back porch for hours. |
