| I have decided to sell my pristine 1997 Collectors' Edition as well as the pristine Glenn Campbell 12.
Both guitars are pristine, flawless, dead mint...you get the picture. I have about $2400 invested in these two guitars.
I will sell the Glenn Campbell by itself if you prefer; however, I will not consider selling the 97 Collectors’ by itself.
The Glenn Campbell is bone stock and perfect.
The 97 Collectors’ is perfect as well, but has been GREATLY improved by replacing the stock piezo pickup with a bone saddle K and K pickup system that is still wired directly to the TS Preamp inside the guitar. This is simply the best sounding amplified acoustic sound I have ever heard. Since the K and K is wired to the TS PreAmp you still can still use the touch sensitive volume adjustment. The bone saddle really made a nice improvement to the acoustic tone of the guitar as well.
Both guitars come with their original cases...also in pristine condition (admittedly, the GC case has a tad more wear, but still amazing considering the age)
Price for both guitars shipped to you is $1975.
With this said, I will consider any trade offers for Martin D12-35 or D12-20 guitars.
Thanks for looking!

Or maybe I'm just too anal-retentive. I hope not, my pet peave too! I always use a piece of the old wound E string to put through the barrel holes to make sure they stay lined up. BTW, very nice looking guitars! ;) |

i gotta applaud you for your persistence! i don't know why these beautiful examples of guitarness have not sold yet. wish i could help you out and take 'em both. i've got a non-slothead takamine EF75 to pay for first. are you selling in order to acquire another slothead? |

| Thanks for asking Lanaki, I am on the hunt for a nice Martin D12-20 or D12-35....slotheads of course.
Everyone has their own opinion, but time after time, I pick up 12 fret slothead guitars and like them better than any 14 fret counterpart. I tend to like more bass output from a guitar and that probably explains why I love 12 fretters so much. |

| That is Plan B and sometimes it becomes Plan A...I keep going back and forth :)
But, I have to say that I need the Ovation community to show me that I am making good investments in these guitars. I am taking a big ol beating on the GC. I paid about $1400 just for it! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | U681-12 is the best 12 string I have ever played. The total cat's ass. I'm 100% in agreement with you about 12 fretters. If you want the best, look no further than the U681-12.
BUT... if you're worried about investment then don't waste your money on an ovation or adamas. Great guitars but they don't hold their value worth a damn. Great if you're a buyer. I have bought and sold about 80 different Ovation or Adamas guitars over the past 6-8 years and I can count on one hand how many I've ever made any profit on. They just depreciate like hell and there's nothing you can do about it. You're going to get about $600. for your GC 12 string. If you're worried about investment then buy the Martin 12. You'll never lose money on it. Of course you'll probably never play it because it won't stay in tune, won't intonate, the action sucks and it's fickle as hell in the elements. My good friend Lou bought a Martin 12 about 5 years ago. He ended up removing all the octave strings and now just plays it as a 12 fret wide neck 6 string. Chalk it up as an investment.

If the guys and gals here on the OFC are the "Ovation community", you've come to the right place for Ovation information. Dave is telling you how it is when it comes to depreciation.
You said you have about $2400 invested in the two guitars. When did you pay $1400 for the GC? That leaves the '97 @ about $1000?
I agree with Dave on the U681-12. When I first received the 6-string version, I immediately asked if (and when) I could get it in a 12. It surpassed my expectations. It really is the best 12-string around. |

| Yes, I paid a little less than 1K for the 97, but by the time I purchased and installed the K and K, I have a G in it.
Agreed, I wish I had asked around a little more before buying the GC. I am not so much looking for an investment as I am just looking not to lose my hind end so badly. Since the new reissues were in the $1750 street price range and they were only available in Sunburst, I thought I was going to be OK buying an original that was as nice as a new one. In any event, I will never sell the GC for Dave's predicted price, so I guess we will be together for a long time.
Also, yes Martins are not known for their 12 strings that is for sure. If you want a good 12, you probably need an Ovation, Adamas or a Guild. |

| Alvarez....I never knew much about them, but I saw Monte Montgomery wail on a 6 string Yari. It took a lot of abuse from him and it sounded great.
I'll be playing a killer, dead mint 70s Martin D12-20 on Friday. Glen shipped out today as part of the deal.
I think the 97 might be spoken for, but please let me know if anyone is intersted. Price for the 97 and case will be $900.
Thanks! |

| The proposed buyer for the 97 Collector was in Nashville on business this week. He found himself at Gruhns...who woudn't? $4K later, he walked out with a special edition OOOO Martin from the custom shop that was made specifically for Gruhns. Aparently, the story goes that Vince Gill had bought a few of this model earlier that week.
Needless to say, he is too financially strained to take the opportunity on the 97 now.
In any event, the 97 is available and absolutey fantastic.
Thanks! |

| Thanks for saying so Gulfcoast.
Price drop on the 97....down to $850 and.......
The GC is mine again, so it is for sale! As mentioned above, it was part of a trade deal for a Martin 12. The Martin turned out to be Very Nice, but by no means was it dead mint as it was promised to be. So the other party chose to send back the GC rather than refund the cash I had paid him. I don't need two 12 strings, but it worked out fine for me since the GC is worth more than I wanted for a refund anyway. |
