That's a good buy. I'd never let mine go for much less than that. If I didn't already own one, this one would be on it's way to my house.

U681 is my dark house (literally). It has got plowed over in the snow for the last year or so with all the hype about the 47RI, OFC guitar, ACS, etc. But let's not forget that the U681 was the first new slothead and textured top to appear in YEARS. With a wide neck to boot! And to my ears it's still head and shoulders above just about everything else out there. This guitar on ebay is a steal. I'd never sell mine.

Dave

PS - And the 12 string version is a KILLER !!!

Of course it had to pop up after I buy something else. Then again, it's a 12-fret...ewww. :p

Well, I really like the UTE but unlike Dave I did not find it to be the "holy grail" that I would never sell.

That might fall to the HD28VS

Good price tho....somebody should grab it.

Stephen, I was not clear. I meant that the U681 was head and shoulders better than just about any other OVATION/ADAMAS out there. It's not in the same league as many of my wooden box guitars.

Value always needs to include price...try and find a wood box in the same price range.

Pay twice or three times as much...maybe.

This is a unique player, not a piece of wall art.

Textured top, nice pre-amp/xlr, great neck, great voice...hmmm, guess that's why I bought one.

Hmmmmm, I've been thinking my next purchase would be a wood box, but this sure is a good price! A wide neck 12-fretter would be an nice compliment to my other guitars!

DZ, you don't have a Folklore, one of my favorites. The Ute, to me, is a Folklore in an Adamas body. A wonderful fingerstyle guitar.

Tony, you're right. If you bring value into the equation then it's hard to ever beat an ovation or adamas. But value is extremely hard to quantify.

Stephen brought up the HD28VS. My own personal opinion: U681 is 1/2 the price, far more stable to the climate, has wonderful electronics and is backed by the worlds finest service department. But to my ears it plays second fiddle to the Martin sonically. Value? If I had $1600. I'd buy the U681. If I had $3200 I'd buy the Martin.

That said, the this U681 on ebay needs to belong to someone in the OFC. I love mine.

Does anyone know how many acoustic u681t's were built? I have serial # 20949. hand written label "u681t-a".

I looked at Dave's registration site and think that Woz and Playadamas each have one, although they are listed as w681ta's, and Dave has one of course. how does it sound?? rings forever... thanks mike

I'm really, really happy with mine.
I would describe it as the "poor man's 47RI or OFC guitar". Or perhaps the EliteT of the Adamas line (as in most bang for the buck).
I've heard that less than 100 were made.

Mike, As far as I know the W681's and U681's have slightly different tops. The "W's" are cross weave like the CVT's but left unsealed and painted in a textured finish. The "U's" are unidirectional woven tops, similarly painted in a textured finish. There are 2 W681-ta and 2 U681-ta that I know of.

To complicate things a bit, Ovation also uses the same model number W681-ta for the export guitars, but those are 14 fret.

I'll gladly give up two working(?) frets to place that bridge where it can really work that top to the max.

'zilla... I think your would be happy with one of these. It really offers a different flavor that can compliment any collection.

Dave and Tony are correct. Adamas/Ovation is probably the best bang for the buck.

Parting with my U681 wasn't easy but with the #47RI and some other incredible guitars, it just wasn't getting the playing time it deserved.

At this BIN on this one, I would seriously consider grabbing it.

The only thing that bothers me about this one is the quality of the pictures, and the fact it doesn't have the original 9158 case.

Looks like it just ended w/o it being sold. Doesn't it usually show "ended with Buy it Nor or Offer"?

I think my guitar buying days are over for a long while. I'm broke now!

Brad, I had one at one time and sold it to Stuart, which I chalked up as one of the many guitar mistakes I've made. I was mostly playing with a flat pick at the time, but now I've gotten around to learn to fingerpick, this one should take care of my needs in that area.

Yeah... but this really fleshes out your collection.
Ya got a CLASSIC, quality wood top in the 1537.
Ya got a completly different wood top flavor in the '97 Parlor.
Ya got an exotic example with the koa.
And lastly, ya got a slothead, 12 fret, textured top Adamas with an awesome reputation.

It's 100% appropriate to feel like you are "done" for a least a year now.

Nice. Now when I stay at your house when I come to Florida, I won't have to bring any guitars. I never have to say I'm done. My wife says it for me. The last time was for a couple years, but then I accidentally bought another Ultra GS.

I said "oops!" That made it an accident. I'm kind of enjoying it. I just need to learn some electric guitar songs.
