I was never a fan of the brown/black burst -9 color, having only seen it in photos. But another member told me "Dave, wait until you see it in person, it's beautiful". He was right. As of a few days ago I am completely sold on this color. It is really amazing. The black inner part has the usual gold speckles, but somehow the brown outer part has little black speckles. Really nice. Dave

Quite honestly I do like Adamas in all colors!
The blue-reverse is the most common and sets the standard in a sense. The red-reverse seems to be the second most popular. It's screaming hot! The brown and beige-reverse are rare, subtle colors. The black although not bad at all, too neutral.

Was that the poo-burst that was just on the Bay recently? Take some better photos to share, those ones they had on the listing were horrendous. :)

Poo-burst. That's the one. But I've got to tell you the photos do not capture how nice this really looks. I've VERY happy with it. I picked it up cheap as a possible adoption. There's a whole bunch of other cool stuff about this guitar that I'll go into in another thread when I get time. This guitar looks, plays and sound like a dream. Far exceeded my expectations. I hope someone here on the OFC gets the one on ebay. They will love it.

Trying to show the black speckle on the outer brown part. Looks really neat.

Just be careful...ON OTHER FINISHES, black spots usually mean that the finish has chipped off showing the primer.

It can be repaired easily with the same paint used to repair ceramic sinks (at most hardware stores).

Are you serious???

You mean that the flakes have chipped off?

I've NEVER heard that before (on an Adamas)!!!

I've seen the tops chip on occasion, but it takes a pretty good whack. The paint chips off and what is left is the bare fiber top, which is black. I don't think that's primer Tony, butr I could be wrong. On mine, I was able to touch it up using nail polish. The woman at the cosmetics department looked at me kind of funny when I brought in my guitar and asked her for some similar shades of blue so I could paint my toe nails to match.

No. I think you (or maybe I) am confusing two things. On the -9 finish part of the top has little speckles of black dots mixed into it. You can see it in my photos above. These speckles are maybe 0.2 mm in size. The chips I was referring to are a lot larger, maybe 5 to 10 mm in size. Dave

This is what I understand: The black spots (or flakes?) are normal on the brown-burst Adamas.

You touched up some top paint chips with nail polish.

I think the -9 is one of the better colors.
Silver is the best.

I've been hanging here too long... I am actually starting to LIKE (or at least appreciate) the Blue.
The Green is still yucky (my Irish heritage withstanding) but I only see that on a couple of Celebrity's that keep appearing, and not being bought, on the Baaa.

So Bill where's your signature?

Bill, I agree (nearly) completely!

-9 is the best colour for these guitars! And, okay, silver, for the proms!

How come that these colours are so rare? Is it the bad taste of the americans? :D Did they scream for those fancy disco and baby (-2 and -8) stuff? Why didn't you do something against it? ;)

Best regards,
Kurt

Again agreed - with Arthur.

Cadillac Greenburst is the colour the factory should have never stopped on the wooden tops!

Signature is right here! I was surprised by this. I only though Bill and Charlie signed the older long rectangular Adamas labels. This was one of the special treats I found with this guitar. And the fact that it's in NEW condition. I mean not a SPOT on it. I really got lucky on this on. Sorry to derail the auction on ebay. Somebody should go buy it. It's a great guitar, and NICE LOOKING!

Dayum, Dave. If those pictures had been on that auction, I might have given you some competition for that one. I actually kind of like the way it looks in your pics...in an "against the grain" kind of way.

Being relatively new to the world of Adamii, other than the carved headstock and bridge, is there any difference between the 1687 and the 1681? Looking at the pics, I'd guess not, but I have no idea about the bracing or whatnot.

The one in the auction is a great looking guitar, but having already violated the "no new guitars" promise (hey, it took six months, OK?!) it won't be coming here. ;)

I think the differences adamas I vs II are:

II does not have hand matched braces
II does not have walnut neck (only walnut fboard)
II does not have sparkle in the bowl paint

There may be some other sobtle differences but for the most part they sound identcal and I guess that's what matters.

From what I have seen is that Charlie signed the Adamas I labels up to circa #600 and Bill up to circa #10,000. Other Adamas models had no label signs but there might be exceptions.

That must be why mine sounds like it lacks top end. No sparkle! D'oh!

Or, uh, maybe not. :o

Thanks for taking the time to give me the rundown.

Looking closely at the pic, it appears there are black and gold specks throughout the whole top. The black ones are just more visible on the light area, and the gold more visible on the dark area.
