Yeah, don't call me Shirley :)

Hmmmm what shall we list next. It's good to see these guitars go to people who obviously appreciate them and I'm sure will enjoy them at least as much as I have.

I guess now I don't have to wonder if they'll trade me for my Magnum IV bass.

BTW Miles... very nice return on an excellent Breadwinner...

I've always wanted one for sit-down playing,

I saw yours starting to go through the roof.. and just started searching... and Guitarget now has their used gear section up online and found the black one for $519 called the store the kid threw in a couple sets of 10s and 2 new Duracells.. so with tax and shipping/insurance via oops... came to $583

think I did alright?

once he sent me the higher res pics and said preamp worked fine w/no noise it was done..

so I guess I get to try another flavor... if it's not for me.... I'm sure someone else here will like it.

regards,

Glenn

Maybe CWK2 knows how many Blue ones were made. I had heard once it was less than 10, like 4 or 6. Although it seems like several have been on eBay, there have actually been the SAME ones being moved around. I have personally bought and sold 2 others on ebay, and seen one of those listed by someone I sold it to. So including this one, that would look like 7 have been on eBay over the past 10 or so years, when there were only 3. There were also a couple "Frankfurters" (Just because you paint a cow blue, the milk will not be grape flavored) which at least to me, made it seem like there were more of them until I got to thinking about it.

I only know of one other one at this point, but I could be wrong. I'm still looking for Ovation branded microphones of which I know there were a boat load made, and I have never seen one other than in a store in the late 70's I believe 'twas.

Funny that you mention numbers. I was reading someone's page online today where he claimed there were 48 blue Breadwinners produced. He had one he purchased back in the 70s, which was stolen at a gig. Once the internet came in vogue, he hunted down someone who had two blue ones and was able to purchase one from him. He was able to tell that neither of the two the man had were the one he had, so he claims he knows of 3. There's another one I know of, owned by a Harmony-Central.com regular by the name of Brian Krashpad, that you can see here: http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/showphoto.php/photo/6076 --that makes 4. When you include the one being sold on ebay now, that makes 5 (assuming there's no double counts in my figuring.)

Out of curiosity, is there a record of which serial numbers had which options? What's to keep someone from buying a less expensive Breadwinner and painting it blue?

[edit] You can read Gordo's story of his stolen "robin's egg blue" Breadwinner here: http://fretboardjournal.com/blog/2006/05/19/ovation-breadwinner/

I've told this story before, but what the heck. It's topical.
When I purchased my Breadwinner from Guitar & Drum Center in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, I had my choice of three that they had in stock. A white one, a tan one, and a blue one. The tan one looked like a poor attempt to look like wood and the blue one was way to Smurfy for a 19 year old stud like myself, so I went with the white one(serial #906).
So... somewhere there is one blue and one tan Breadwinner that can trace its roots back to southeast Michigan.

I'm with you Brad. I like the blue breadwinners, but if I was buying back when I was a kid, I would have picked the white one. Guess that's why they're rare.

Not sure how many blew ones but it may have been 50. Maybe as many as 100, certainly not more than 150. I think they came in both pickup configurations. The buckskin was the next but there were more of those, several hundred, 300-400 maybe.
Yes you could just paint one blew but it wouldn't be the right blue and it wouldn't have the blue p/g.
