It's not mine, but here's a link to a Preacher for sale at Guitar Center:

http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listId=102650512

The store manager called me after I tried to get him to trade my Magnum IV bass for it that he'd be willing to sell it for $650.

I played that one at that GC a few months back. It was nice. Any time I see a solidbody O at any store I try to at least strum it.

A few of us wouldn't mind shaking the dust off our feet, either.

I've heard they depreciate a bunch, or maybe it was that nobody appreciates them. Whatever.

The Preacher and for the matter Preacher Deluxe ,which really is a completely different guitar than the preacher as far as I'm concerned, never did much for me with the exception of the one I have with Viper pickups, those that have the Going to The Dogs album may be familiar with it, and it has a cool sound and a bit different sustain than a Viper. Scale probably has a lot to do with it.

In general the production Preacher's were a fine guitar, built well, gots all the stuff I normally like about guitars, just doesn't seem to have "it" for me.

900 bucks for a beat up preacher? A while back Sam Ash had a white Breadwinner that looked like it came back from a war - for 800. Why do big chains charge so much for used gear??

I think a better question is why do so many people think that because it's on the internet it should be a bargain? Show me a hand-finished-in-the-USA guitar of the quality of workmanship and components for less than $1000.

But to answer your question of "Why do big chains charge so much for used gear?." Simple, people buy them.
