If I were looking for one, that would be one to have. I wonder however if the abalone along the edges of the fretboard effects the way it plays?
I remember back around 1996 when I was playing my 1537, a friend walked in with one of these that he purchased in a pawn shop for $425. |

And 1960's SG's were around $1500 to $2200 too...now I've seen them for $25,000...
I could just scream.... :p |

The scary part is that people actually buy them. I recently heard of an original Les Paul that was "supposedly" played by one of the Beatles that sold at auction for over $300,000. Just a bit excessive if you ask me. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | It's a "pretty guitar", but I don't believe it plays or sounds better than any other Elite. As a matter-of-fact, I'd put my cedar-top Elite up against it any time. The 1537s don't cost nearly that much and I'm sure they sound better too. |

| So, for almost $1400 the winning bidder got a premium USA Collectible Ovation guitar, which is close to what it sold for originally, plus it's aged a few years and probably sounds better now than when it was new. I think that's still a good price, but yeah, a 1537 in mint condition would be more like it!... |

Location: Phoenix AZ | A Book Elite for under $1500 is a hell of a bargin. It's an extremely rare guitar and shows off some of Ovations best-ever asthetic work. Plus exactly HOW MANY Ovation models can lay claim to having their pretty face on the cover of the book. Why would it NOT be worth that much?
People don't buy these because they want the best possible acouctic sound. Vince is right, 1537 sounds far better acoustically. But on the other hand the Book Elite has way better electronics, lighter weight, and a cutaway if you're into that sort of thing. All depends what you are looking for. There IS a reason that ovation makes a few dozen different models.

If I didn't have an 87, or if I ever give "mine" to my daughter who thinks it's hers, this Book would be a wonderful replacement. I like the innies and the headstock on the 87 better, though. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I have to be honest here. Many would consider that the price paid for this Book Elite is a bargain compared to what I paid for mine. Nonetheless, I bought mine from the original owner, a fellow OFC member, who assured me that it is virtually unplayed and, of course, it looks just as mint as it possibly could. For that reason, I consider that I, too, obtained a good deal, not necessarily based upon price, but rather, its perceived value to me personally. |

Mine has got abalone binding too.
But mine has abalone fret-dots, a five-year warranty, and was alot cheaper.
(and I don't like the outie epaulets that much.) |

I think someone here (Mike maybe) picked up an Adamas I for less. Any of those guitars are a much better instrument than this. Maybe it's just that I'm not into the "bling" that much. (just my .02) |

My common reply to people that ask me "Do you rreally think your (insert name of guitar A here) is better than you (insert name of guitar B here)? I say "YUP! I think it's better, therefor it IS."
I think in the universe of Ovation collecting, playing and fandom we have gotten our sense of value skewed by the rediculously low prices and rapid depreciation of most ovation and adamas models. The rest of the world plays to a much different tune. In our little universe, Yes maybe $1400 is on the high side by most peoples opinion and lots don't think this guitar is anything special. But in the grand scheme of things I'll stand by my comment - at $1400 this guitar was a bargin as well as a bargain.

| A serious player will invest what, at least a month's pay for a quality guitar? So, by comparison this was a steal for anyone making at least 20K a year... add to that the collectible value..it was worth at least $1400. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Well, you can call anything "collectable", but as far as the value increasing, I haven't seen Ovations do much in that area. Kind of like the adds for custom built Harleys, "Have $25000.00 invested, will sell for $15000.00". Not much of an "investment". Of course on Ebay, it just depends on the timing. Some weeks you wouldn't get 600.00 for that book elite, other weeks you can sell a plain celeb for that. |

I bid on 29th $1352. Just enough and highest price. I thought I could be the winner at $1200. But not.
Anyway I still have one of this model from MSB OFC member at $995.included the book. Very good price.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Jim, if you see any other Book Elites for $600, let me know. Tdeej got one for about that, but it had some issues and he sent it right to the Mothership. Haven't seen it since he got it back. I was looking at them for a long time and that was the only one I remember that was under $1000. These are great guitars, easily worth what Povation paid for it. When I win the lottery, I'll buy all his extras from him and drive the values way up for the rest of you guys. |

Still had the gay epaulets...... |

I know it was from an OFC member but for the life of me I can't remember his name; it was an eBay auction back in Feb. or March...I have tried to find the original posts on this but again, no luck...I put it in a new TOL case and used its original one for the 82C which came in a cardboard case...It really is an amazing Ovation! |

If it's that guitar (and I don't know), then it shouldn't have any blemishes on the top.... |

I have not found a flaw other than a very little fretwear (that I just had addressed at the factory). Now, it would be hard to tell the difference from a new one (if there were new ones out there) ;) |
