Location: Tennessee | That's a nice one ... but the top looks to be flame maple, not spruce. It is worth the money, but the market in general tends to undervalue these guitars. |

Totally different animals, but like you said the market looks at these side-by-side.

Then I realized that I have guitars that need playing!
I just got a Crate GTX-15 with a few effects, so I've been playing my Pseudo-Strat... I was just having an Electric Guitar GAS moment on eBay.
I do that every Sunday about this time.
[So instead, I manufactured a New saddle for my 1121, and it plays Real Nice now.] :cool: |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | For somebody looking for a USA Viper in the flame maple finish, this price range is about right. These finishes are relatively rare. I've gone back again to using the Viper for the Sunday service for the past three weeks because there is one number we've been doing where I need to add a little dirt on the refrain, but all other numbers need to be clean. This is where the Vipers really shine. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I am told that nowadays, all USA Vipers come with the black tolex-covered case previously supplied with only the CV series guitars. Apparently, the molded model formerly provided with the USA Vipers is no longer available. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Dan, according to the factory, the new case supplied with the USA Vipers is a 9158 black wood framed model made by TKL. This is a different number than what appears on the website for either the EA or the CV series. Nonetheless, the case looks sturdy and is lighter and easier to handle than the molded model. In fact, it looks very similiar to what Gibson typically uses for their USA Les Paul models, sans the protective satin cover and one fastener on the back side. |

Location: 6 String Ranch | I find it hard to get upset about the case as long as it's a good one. Cheap case, then it's an issue. Original case, I don't really care, just as long as it's a good one.
I paid top dollar for a 1939 D-18 and it was in a fairly new sturdy case. Never thought twice about it. A 1939 case wouldn't probably be as good and I sure as hell want protection for that guitar!

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Just received another update message from the factory. Their earlier message was incorrect. The standard EA68 Viper case continues to use a 9160 model number, but is the black wood-framed case. They changed the case a few years ago but retained the model designation. The CV cases are sourced from China. They further reported that the 9158 case previously reported to me is for a mandolin. Initially, I was a little disappointed in not receiving the molded case (I already have one that accompanies an older model). Now that I've had a chance to use the black wood framed case, I don't mind it at all. It is easier to handle. I might even prefer it. |

The dude got $1400 BIN for it..I just got off the phone with him..he picked it up in FL a few years ago ..cheap..used it on a cruise...sent it back to Ovation to get it adjusted..they told him it was a real treasure (low serial number 505524) & offered him $1600 for it..he declined waited a while & decided to sell it after all...oddly I checked the serial # on mine..one digit off 505525..mine was made right after his..isn't that bizarre! Anyway, glad he got what he wanted for it...I paid $900 for mine..no scratches:-) |
