I really hope this one ends up in the "family;" if I didn't have to have a new deck put on the house, I'd be in the hunt. It would be so wonderful to have a true sister for Gertrude. Oh, well, I hope I'll get to be happy for one of us folks....

I'm having a go. What's the general consensis on value? I'm more a solid body collector but I'd like this one.

Hey Louie,

My Grandfather (Witkowski) said that same thing in 1930. He packed up a few belongings and headed for America, shortend the name to Witko and the rest, as they say, is history. Come on over, we'll keep a light on for you.

Plus, I compared Polish mailorder brides to Russian ones. No offense to the ruskies, but the polish girls win by a good margin. Bring some of those along with you, OK? Don't worry about guitars, we can take care of that Stateside.

My dad was going to get rid of the "ski" and shorten our name, but then he just moved someplace where the people were smarter and could pronounce it.

Mike, I think it was western Kansas where no one could pronounce our name, but we moved so many times I'm not sure. My folks are in Oregon, now, and they don't seem to have as much problem. The University of Portland just named a soccer field after my uncle, but they call it "Pru's Pitch" instead of it's official name.

My Mom's maiden name is Wainopaa. Pronounced VUN-yo-PA. None of her school teachers could pronounce it.

Or family ran from Finland (and Lithuania) in the 20's and 30's. [Actually ran from the Russians, some of us were Jewish!]

Wrong. BOY-see. No rational basis for that, as far as I can tell, since the name supposedly comes from the French "bois", which sounds something like "bwah".

A Polish immigrant went to the DMV to apply for a driver's license. First, of course, he had to take an eye sight test.
The optician showed him a card with the letters 'C Z W I X N O S T A C Z.'

'Can you read this?' the optician asked.
'Read it?' the Polish guy replied, 'I know the guy.'

hah. my name is Rochowski, which should be pronounced roh-ov-skee.
when i'll be decided that i'll move on, i'll look for advices.
In 3 weeks, there will be election to parliment in poland. if PiS and Kaczynski brothers will win - i go out.

btw.
it's really fun to hear how english-speaking people try to spell polish names. My friend is named Brzeczyszczykiewicz which should be pronounced Bgeenchyschyckievich. try to spell it:D

ps.
we dont use X in polish alphabet
ps.2
polish names which end on -ski and -cki are sign, that before XIX century that family belonged to Polish nobility.

Before you leave, look up my relatives. Prusynski. I've been told we don't pronounce it correctly. I won't tell my dad about the nobility thing. He has a big enough head already.

1) we do have electricity.
2) X is in polish language replaced by "iks"

some "interesting" statistics:
-over 50% of young people in age 18-24 are studying
-avg salary per month equals about 1000 US dollars brutto, which gives about 600$ net salary.
-minimum salary per month equalls 300 $ brutto, which gives about $220 per month
-doctor with specialisation with 15 years experience earns about 900$ brutto in hospital.
-secretary in national health fund fresh after studies (or not) earns about 1100$ brutto

AVG salary in city where i live is about 800$ brutto (about 500$ net)
avg price for 1m2 of terrain in my neighbourhood oscillates around $75
avg price for 1m2 of terrain near Belarus oscillates around $10

ps.
we have probably the best beer in the world :D
and probably one of the strongest :]

During my life as a janitor, I was once asked to bring up a lightbulb to replace one that had "burned out". I did and asked if the person who requested it was sure the bulb was burned out. I was rebuked with comments about what an idiot I was for asking. Since I am Polish, I was thinking about the old joke as I walked in and plugged in the lamp. Took the new bulb back with me, thinking that sometimes it doesn't take any of us to replace a bulb.

True story. My brother in law owns one of the largest port-a-john rental companies in the NY tri-state area. Says he owns over 5000 "boxes", as he calls them. It's shitty work to be sure, but at the end of the day (even after paying off the mob to protect certain territories), guess who's laughing all the way to the freaking bank. Dave

Back to the auction. One day to go and it's up to a bit over $300 with the shipping.

Nice guitar. Look close and you'll see that it has a fiberglass bowl. This would be a nice grab for someone looking for an acoustic only Ovation.

Around here the Sewer District is referred to as the "Collections" department. They are in adjoining buildings with the Water "Suppliers".

'Semi-democratic', a fancy term for half-wit politics.
At $300 that's an incredible buy for an original USA 5-piece neck Custom Balladeer. Be interesting to see what prices another 24 hours will bring..

I can run but I cannot hide :D When I saw it last week, I wanted it just because it is that rare find of a perfect 1974 ovation. You don't see those everyday. Now I have another guitar I will be afraid to play hard LOL But at least it stayed in the OFC family.

So another one of my electric guitars bit the dust last week - sold one to a friend to get this guitar. Ten years from now, it had better go up in value :)but that really isn't the point - just love to look at a beautiful guitar.

It is now time for a 12 step program  ;)

Congratulations Vision great pickup.
I thought it might have made a little more.
I'm more a solidbody collector but I was keen on this, $750 was my limit though, at that it would have still cost $1500AUD by the time I got it home.
Enjoy!! :)

I could feel the presence of OFC members all around me as the clock ticked down. ;)

AussieJames - I really wasn't expecting to win it - thought it would go for much more and I would say bye bye to it but the ovation Gods let me have it for some reason.

Arthur - that one is a time capsule - couldn't believe what type of shape it is in.

I HAVE to stop buying!! Somebody stop me!!
