The local independent store has a couple in stock. I gotta say it looked and played very nicely.

These Taylor solid bodies do look nice. But so do a zillion other solidbodies out there. Would be interesting to know Taylor's philosophy and how they plan to market and sell this. Maybe it's just an elegant way to extract themselves form the T5 partial birth abortion.

Taylers have some amazing looking woods. That Top on the Custom above is a fine example.

If it's strictly an electric, it would depend on the price. But as stated... there are a LOT of nice electics out there. Once you get around $2500, you can pretty much get what you want. If they are doing a fishman a'la VXT type thing... It would be some competition based on how it plays and sounds.

My Friend Marc Seal has had Bob Taylor's ear on deveolping this since BEFORE the T-5 12 string came out.

I Knew this was coming and (jeez I hate this part) Dave is right. The T-5 sold like crazy initially, but the hybrid market is pretty small. The solid body market is at least 3 times the size of the acoustic market, and Taylor is in the top 5 there. They are looking at stealing a piece of the market from Fender and Gibson.

If I had told you at NAMM 2006 "Taylor is going to make Solid Body electrics" you'd have laughed at me (more than usual).

They have the body beveled in a non-symetrical way along with a faint little pinstrip that sets it of. It's kinda nice in an eye-candy type of way.
And it's very light weight.

Yeah, but how do they compare with a T-60? ;)

The UKII kicks the T's ass too, but I like my T-60. It's a heavy beast though. Another historically under appreciated instrument.

Then there's always price. I can get 10 nice solid USA made T-60s for the price of one Taylor solidbody.

If I'm going to spend that kind of $, I'll go with Hamer. If I wanted a custom USA made guitar on more of a budget, I'd go Carvin.

Of course, this is just my personal preference. To each his own.

I refer to my previous statement about "market share"...

Is a Taylor Strat-copy or LP copy any better than anybody else's?

The first guitar I bought is a Strat copy, with really great action, keeps it tune, and all the pick-ups work...
What more do you want for $97? (yeah, it came with an amp, etc.)

So what sets the Taylor Pseudo-Strat apart, besides the Logo and the Price?

Let's be honest, the problem with the Taylor solidbody is that it says "Taylor" on it. If Martin came out with the identical guitar I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Wow: it's evident in looking at the numbers already sold and in the process of being made in the new addition to the Taylor factory that both the new Solid Body and the T-5 have been a very good seller for the company. Inovative and smart looking...strange but I think the few persons who put it down aren't going to affect the success much...Fact: thousands pay the bucks for these guitars because they like 'em and they know how to use them. Not for everyone for sure but they are popular. If I have the bucks I'll add the T-12 to the stable and perhaps the walnut solid body too. I think my sig line tells the tale as to what I also like: but it's partial; there's a lot more...

Brad what kind of amp did you play it through? Were you able to put a bit of volume to it?
I know that Taylor T-5's were a huge hit when they came out like a new model car (Viper,Mustang,Expedition)and after the fluff of them being new & different the price begins to fall below what they went for new when they were introduced.I think this is Taylors way of some more good marketing for a year or so of something different to keep them one step up on giving the public something new to chew on.
I think its a good idea myself. Most good companies do this.
As a good businessman says
" Keep on doing things the same way and you will get the same results" and in todays world you better learn to keep up with change or you will become like the Dinosaurs , they did not adapt to change and became extinet.

I assumed these solidbodies were a replacement for the T5, but I guess not. Probably makes sense to have both hollowbody and solidbody electrics. I just wonder with these who's market share they are going after. There's no "new" players out there, so you gain market share by taking it from someone else. When I look at these I can't help but think of Collings, so maybe that's the target. Dave

GWB...
Which amp??
Sorry ... don't remember. I didn't blast any power chords. Just a little strum & pick session.

Brilliant. You must work in marketing.
No I'm being serious. I think that is a great observation.

Yeah, New people take up the guitar and others give it up or die. The pool of potential buyers is more of less the same. On average if Taylor gains a customer, another company has lost one.

Why are we talking about these?? isn't there another site for this topic? No offence, taylor makes fine "expensive" instruments and they do have a fan following..........somewhere.....right?
Ovation has a dam nice Solid Body Electric as well, in fact Al has one or two for sale right now. Or did not long ago.
I am actually thinking of replacing my go to electric with one of these newer electric/acoustic solid bodies and I'd love to hear more about the Ovation versions.
But hey that's just me and most people find me offensive but I thought this was an Ovation site so I thought I'd ask.

I thought we prided ourselves on being the "Big Tent" type of fan club. A place where you can bring your discussions of Strats, Taks, Martys, Gibbys and others.
I think the introduction of a Taylor solid body is note worthy to us. It's certainly "on topic".
If it bothers you, mouse with the right hand while you plug your nose with the left. :)
