Damn, this thing must be worth millions. Somewhere in the ballpark with the 3 million Martin.
Not only that James Dean was well known and got famous for his guitar playing skills - he even died more than ten years before the first Ovation was built.
Somebody should buy this one quick, before it's to late!

Location: Newport,OR | I checked out some of his other auctions not all of them, I noticed his DAW system has a pic of a Shuttle XPC insides and not the DAW. I think this is a real scam artist! Buyer beware!!! |

Location: CA | I couldn't help myself. Sent him a message basically saying he's the laugh of the hour among Ovation owners, and that next time he wants to scam people with a 'rare signature guitar', 1) Pick somebody who actually PLAYED the guitar and 2) who wasn't dead about 15 years before the first Ovation was ever made. Here is his reply:
laugh away brother... ask Ovation why they made a guitar after James Dean... picture shows the ovation stamp and signature in the bowl... he who laughs last thinks slowest cupcake... I'll be sure and look for your bid... now go read some more guitar forums instead of playing your instrument or something... |

Location: CA | FWIW, I have not been on this forum long enough to know if there are actual Ovation archivists present (although there seem to be). So I queried them directly — after all, perhaps I was being a cupcake about all this. Here is the 'official' response:
Good suggestion. I did ask Ovation. Here is their response:
John,
It's well-known to us that James Dean plays Ovation guitars in the afterlife, but makes a poor endorsee for advertising purposes. Porsche feels the same way, I'm sure.
It's not actually that weird, considering Martin makes a Jim Croce model...kinda creepy, though.
We do not now, nor have we ever made a James Dean Model guitar. We didn't build our first guitar until 1966. |

Seems like a nice guy. And it looks like a nice Balladeer. Hope he hasn't set his (price) sights too high. |
