and thanks to everyone else for the encouragement. It's off the album "Cal" which was the theme music for the movie of the same name about a Catholic in Northern Island who falls in love with a Protestant woman at the same time as his mates get him involved in IRA activities. Great music by Knopfler which sets a mood for this movie, similar to the way he did for "Local Hero" which is my all time favourite movie. |

Couple of questions...
Which guitar were you using on that track?
And you may have mentioned this in another thread but, what's your recording setup? |

Location: big island | hi steve,
in the window that opens for the sound clip, there is a link, "full song info". if you click on that you will see the info i have included which covers the questions you asked. short story: i am playing the 1978 adamas 1 1687-9 i recently got on eBay. plugged into my zoom a2.1u pedal on bank B / patch 0 / default settings. the audio was captured via usb from the pedal using roxio's easy media creator v.9
(i'm having a few issues with the lexicon omega unit and have not been able to use it yet. i visited their support site and found numerous folks having the same problems. class-action lawsuit may be forthcoming.) |

Looks like lots of people are digging your tune! Now if each of them buys an OFC CD... |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Randy has been doing this for a long time: yes, he's a great player (and does have a nice voice as well): he still makes part of his living as a professional so he's got to have a modicum of talent to be able to do that consistently.
But hey, not everybody that plays piano is a Rachmaninoff....not every guitarist is a pro...the important thing is to have fun and express yourself! |

...What's the problem with the Omega? I've been using the Alpha with no problems. initially, the unit would not respond at all after 20-30 minutes of use. i visited lexicon's forum to find out many users had the same issue. remedy: open the unit and take the slack out of the largest ribbon cable as it makes contact with one of the FETs and will burn/melt at that point. the company has issued no formal statement about this as of yet. opening the unit voids the warranty for the original buyer though. mine had this problem as did most of the units that have "SV" after the model number on the bottom.
another problem and less easy to counter is the hardware not being recognized nor the drivers found although they reside in the software folder. windows xp pro wants to install the "new usb device" every time i connect the unit and then tells me the device cannot be installed as the drivers are not available. directing to the drivers does not help.
i've had to do numerous un and re installs until i found out i can just unplug the AC cord momentarily and then the unit is recognized again after plugging in. this sucks in the middle of recording! this remains an issue for many folks and the company has not addressed it either.
lexicon updated the drivers last october which are downloadable from their site, however, they do not work any better. i was telling musicmike i wish i had done my homework on these units before purchasing it. i'm sure i'll get it all worked out eventually. otherwise, as many have said on the lexicon forum, at least i've got a nice looking, albeit expensive, paperweight. |

It's a shame to lose one of your instruments. never smoked much of anything legal in my life, and it's been a dozen years since i've smoked anything with the exception of totally "smoking" several friends of mine bowling last night. i'm staring at 52 this september. i really believe madame pele is the main source of my problems. she keeps shaking up the volcanoes here and the volcanic fog has many folks in respiratory distress. i'm not able to breathe as deeply and i end up squeezing my cords. then the mental side of it takes over, i lose my confidence and singing becomes a painful chore rather than the delight it should be. |

Location: Utah | I had the same issue with WinXP not recognizing my alpha until I installed ASIO drivers for it. The factory drivers were something different. ASIO4ALL not only fixed the recognition problem, but the latency is much lower now. The only downside to using ASIO drivers is that the built in sound card for the computer is not ASIO, and my recording software cannot run both simultaneously. Thus I am limited to using headphones when mixing or listening via the recording software. To listen via the computer speakers I have to mix it down to a wav or MP3 and then use another program to listen, like Windows Media Player. A minor inconvenience but worth it to get the faster performance with ASIO drivers. |

Location: big island | i have ASIO4ALL but did not attempt to use it for this application as others on the lexicon forum said it did not help them with the same issue i have. after the first install, the omega took over as the default player also and my computer speakers would not play so i had to use the headphones to monitor all audio as i do not have dedicated monitor speakers...yet.
that is remedied by changing the default media player in hardware devices. so if and when i record with the omega i then go to devices to set the default and can playback thru the computer's speaker system. |

first thing to do is open the unit and rubber band the slack in that large ribbon cable. you may already see a small burn mark on the cable where it touches the FET in the middle. there are two screws on the bottom sides of the unit, four on the back and the two silver ones on the bottom of the faceplate that require removal to open it. you do not need to unscrew the four black ones on the bottom surrounding the label. |

Well, to say I was surprised about this is an understatement: it could easily have been me. I bought this from from a fellow on ebay who had gotten it as a gift and he did not need it. I got busy with finishing seminary and never used it. Then sold it to Randy with no idea that it wasn't a great unit. The board here had discussed it and it seemed to be a good unit so that's why I bought it. Had I known it never would have left Virginia.
I really think that Lexicon should step up to the plate and recognize they have a serious issue here and replace all of the units or at least refurbish them. |

anyway, my song has been bumped up a notch to #4 on soundclick. i'm not exactly sure what that means, but i now have a tune in their top 100 acoustic genre and this one in their top 50 acoustic. seems folks are enjoying the instrumental i did with the the EA-68 viper. i remain broke though. |
