Location: SoCal | Many people here have several different guitars, and a number of people here have a lot of guitars. My question is, ultimately, which guitar is your "go to" guitar, ie, that instrument that meets the most of your needs. You'd be happy picking it up at home, or taking it to an acoustic jam, or to a plugged in situation.
For me, my 87 Collectors is the guitar that I'm happiest picking up for any of the above situations, with the OFC slothead (ding!) coming in right behind it. Both sound great acoustically or plugged in, look great, and feel great. I'm just a little more paranoid about caring for the OFC'er.
What about everybody else? |

I like sharing the experience of OFC#9 with folks I meet and even Otto is now grooving to the wideneck it has!
Can't thank Alpep enough for sticking with it to make the OFC guitar a reality.
After the SSJ II though, I will always carry a set of airlocks with me. That OFC just loved humming in front of the mikes ;) |

2. 1187-2
3. 96 Collector's
For plugged playing:
1. 1687-9
2. MM 597
3. 87 Collector's
But wait, there is the U681T as well, and the Taks, and the 1581, and the EMSX, the CA, the 12 strings, the Josh White... And I definitly forgot the JL3, the best woodtop Ovation ever built...
Okay, let's say, I'll grab the L.A.V. 1187-7. That's all I need!
Best regards,

When I'm not at work, I often grab the Martin DM to play with friends and family ... even at gatherings out of the home, or outdoors (provided that it's strictly acoustic).
Plugged in, such as the recent event at the VA Hospital with Mitchrx, his son Andrew and fellow OFCer Phil Wong, I use my one and only Ovation - a 1719 Custom Legend.
It may not be the most precious guitar in the market, but I do tend to be overprotective, and feel paranoid taking the HD-28 anywhere. :o |

the Artist works fine for an acoustic rehearsal or duo gig, but an electric solid body or semi-hollow works better for my trio with bass and drums.
my Adamas II works nice in an acoustic jam with more than 2 guitars, plus makes all the guitar snobs wonder how can that non-wood guitar can sound like a D size, but it takes one banjo to change everything and for me if there are more than 2 guitars I rather play mandolin anyway.
a small club gig is different than a large event outdoors. sometimes even an ac unit or pool table in a club can kill your sound and it feels like 10 rounds all night. outdoors there is usually a large pa that you can crank up, etc.
that is why you need more than 1 guitar, there are many different playing environments.

I've even been known to use a certain guitar because it matches the shirt I'm wearing. That said, the Adamas 1881 is probably the one I typically grab most often for practicing in the band room and for rehearsals, and I use it often but not exclusively for services. |

I still have to say that of all the guitars I have the one that always puts a smile on my face the fastest is the Tak 45th. The overall sound is just wonderful.
The 2080D is a close second
If I had to add a third it would be my 05 Tricone Cutaway.
I could live with those three, not very well, but I could. |

If I'm "downstairs" (which is where I do the most playing at home), I'll always grab the little Tak classical. It's small, lightweight, I can play it while sitting at the computer, and it's just a GREAT "songwriting" guitar.
After that, it's usually the LongNeck Adamas.
If I'm "upstairs", I'll pull the SlotHead down off the wall.
Playing that guitar always gives me a "chubby" . . .
Since two of the above are strictly acoustic (and one is a LongNeck) the CustomBalladeer is the one that usually goes out the door with me for a plugged-in situation, and gets played about 75-85% of the time at all my gigs. |

Glad your hand/arm is improving. Thanks for the welcome. The family is doing great. The kids are now 8 and 6. I am back with my ex and we are on top of the medical bills. I've been away because not playing was depressing enough without reading about playing. Things got worse with my arm and I wasn't using it at all. With medication and physical theropy I've regained nearly the full range of motion. Though it still can be painful to move. It's getting steadier and I've gained great control of my hand. It still shakes and is not dexterious as it was. I can now play again and get better at it everytime I try. I been at it for the last two months. |

The thing weighs a ton! (or at least more than its brethren) And it has fence-wire for strings (EJ17's), but it is a re-discovery.

One day at the Winterhawk festival in upstate NY, she and Alison Kraus were sitting on the hood of a car playing, and I walked up to them and said "Hey, I'm an Alison too, and I play guitar." Ms. Kraus said "Well go get it.", so I did and we played for about half an hour. Thrill of a lifetime! |

I pulled out a ’93 Balladeer that I’m loaning to a broke just-graduated college kid. There’s absolutely no comparison twix the FL and the 1711. The Folklore has that mature full-range projection. In one word, SWEEEET!
If I can put her down long enough, I'll try a set of 'silks' on her next week. |
