Location: Phoenix AZ | Reservation placed. Given everything that's going on this'll either be 1) the first of a new era, or 2) last of the mohecians. Either way it'll be a very special instrument. Single sided epaulet models just HONK, and coupled with a slotted headstock and contour bowl this could very well be the best of the best. Nice work bringing this foreward as a little "Xmas whistle wetter", Al. THANKS!

Here's Mine: MusicMikes 08 Collector
Here's Leslie's: Visions\'s 08 Colletor
I'll do a full write up and pic's next Tuesday but I can say these are really sweet! Lite weight and great sound!
This is only part of my Holiday news: more to come! |

Mike, how did you get one before Al even announced it?
I find it interesting that 1.) Ovation is bringing back the old style Adamas, 2.) that they are charging real money for them, and 3.) they are only building 100 of these collectors (vs. about 700-1000 for other years). This is going to be a REAL collectors edition..... |

This had to be meant to be as the guitar fund was depleated on Wednesday when I heard about it and I sold three guitars in 24 hours to be able to get it! I love it when a plan comes together!

This smells...no other way to say it. Not the first time. 12/31/04, first pics of the the 30th Anniv Custom Legend is on a dealer's eBay auction and he had it in stock. 47RI pictures of #3 - guitar in his showroom and on eBay.
Al now finally able to give us basic specs with no pics and one is confirmed delivered, another in a couple of days.
Either a company releases a guitar to sell to all of the dealers or it doesn't. Playing of favoritism is wrong. My relationship with an Ovation and Adamas dealer is through Al. He has provided superior product and support. The company's actions are in direct conflict with their need to support the individual dealer. The company should try and reinforce the relationship between the dealer and customer.
And, please don't excuse the company by blaming it on one of their rep's (as in the case of the Custom Legend and the 47RI).
Again, it smells. |

Apparently, Leslie and Mike found a great opportunity to quickly purchase what is certainly a first (Adamas Collector) and they obviouusly moved quickly. Certainly no blame there.
For Ovation not to have given, maybe not their largest vendor, but certainly their biggest supporter, at least an equal (should have been 1st) chance to promote this SUUUUUUCKS!
Sorry, am I being direct enough?! |

The point though is relevant, that apparently these were shipping to high volume dealers before Al was even allowed to mention them to us.
That is wrong! |

reps had their meeting in bloomfield this weekend and this is where they were told about the guitar.
that is why I did not have all the specs or pics. Probably won't be available to me until tomorrow.
To find out that these guitars are already in the hands of consumers is a little unnerving to me. But as it was expressed to me i am not a "million dollar account". but if you can tell me the dealer I can find out what rep he has and request i get changed. Hell if I had the guitars early I would sell them as quickly as possible. BUT I am a man of my word and if I am told NOT to give details until a specific date you can be damn well sure I would not. guess I am just stupid that way (looks like I don't have what it takes to be a millio dollar account. Hell I even tell people not to buy certain guitars. can you care too much? I guess so)
no matter. These are really cool guitars. I hope to grab a pile of them obviously the promise of early s/n numbers is probably out the window.
anyone wanna buy a mexi strat??????

I am not making excuses here but there are probably only so many that have been made to this point - possibly a very low number - if the dealers that recieved the first few shipments do the largest volume of sales in the country, shouldn't they get first crack at the few that have been produced?
Mike and I did not do this to hurt Al or anyone else - we just wanted all of you to see what will soon be available to you and more than likely be sitting in your home within the month.
For the first time in my life, I had first grabs at something speical. If I ever get another opportunity to be the first at something special, I think I will just keep it to myself until everyone has the information and starts posting their pictures.
Al, I hope you sell 20 of them. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Well, I really don't know where to start or what to say. I do know that until last Wednesday afternoon, I had never heard of this guitar...I dare say that not a single person here, given the means to acquire, one, would not have jumped on the chance and if I were to sell mine right this minute, it would be gone by tomorrow...
I've been in the music business for over 33 years...I had my own MI store and several other guitar oriented ventures from 1983 to 1993 besides still playing music professionally...I learned how the game was played...and that does not directly or indirectly have anything to do with this transaction. Leslie and I had an opportunity because of a large purchase we had made previously from one of the largest dealers in the country. I have dealt with many dealers over my 33+ year association with Kaman Music. Most were very good to deal with. To be honest, all of us here for the most part like to get a deal or to be able to buy something at the best price available...Leslie and I were not able to turn down this offer...it was the proverbial "offer you can't refuse". There was nothing wrong or "smelly" about this dealer and I resent the remark! Just as I would vehemently oppose anyone who would say the same things of Al! Kaman is a business: they have dealers and obviously they have differing ways of getting product out: I think Al hit it on the head when his rep said he was not a million seller: Folks, like it or not, that’s the name of the game: to sell product! If you're very good at it and do well, the companies reward you in some way! It's called Capitalism and many of us wore the uniform and fought for the right to do so freely! Guitars are not different than any other lines of material goods! I was waiting until I had a chance to get my guitar in hand and then Leslie and I were going to post together to show our latest guitars to a forum that we expected surely would be excited to see and hear about them. I did not know that Al was going to post this thread or to what extent he may or may not have ordered or even had in stock. I truly hope many here will order them from Al...Obviously he can get them and will get them. After hearing Leslie's 08 Collector over the phone last night, let me tell you if they sound that good over a phone speaker, just think how good they'll sound in person or through a PA! I have always played Ovation (and now more recently Adamas) because I love the product! And I really like the company too. Are they perfect? Of course not! Do they "stink"? Of course not! They are a successful business that has excellent customer service and support and is an American tradition! Part of our American Heritage! And they have become a worldwide heritage as well. While we do not fully know what will happen after Jan. 1st, I think it is safe to say that since many of the 100 2008 Collector Guitars have yet to be built, that is a good indicator! If we would all support the dealers (and certainly Al's "Lost Art Vintage" is one) we can assure Fender that they have indeed purchased wisely and should leave it the "...." alone to run itself or at least continue the tradition! I love the older guitars; but this is my 2nd new one! I am looking forward to getting it here and playing the tar out of it! Leslie is equally excited about having hers. Al will sell many, I have no doubt! Can't we be happy for that? Can't we support the company in this time of anxiety? Can't we think the best and do the best for others? That’s what makes this season and these holidays so special! My wish for the holidays is to flush all the negativity! Life is too short! |

My reaction is towards Al not having the same chance to present this opportunity at the same time. He provides us with this board and many other opportunities. Being self employed myself I have felt the unfairness in certain business sitations and was simply reflecting my support for the small business person.
As I said in my previous post, there is certainly no blame on you or Mike's part. I hope that y'all enjoy the beautiful new A collector. I can't wait to see and play Mike's in March.

I reiterate...it is the factory that again screwed up...it smells. And, at the factory, it is the MANAGEMENT, not the wonderful guys and gals that help us everyday.
I don't care what volume some dealers have...let them make some pre-orders before other dealers. Save the 1st 10 for pre-orders to your favorites.
DON'T SHIP guitars until it has been announced to all dealers.
Again, to Mike and Leslie, no one is addressing your purchase. In fact, we appreciate seeing the pictures. We want to share in your joy. Thanks and congratulations.
Guess I should go check to see if there is one on eBay. |

Those 5 companies always get first delivery. Always get the best price. And always have the inside track on new stuff before the rest of our customers every know about it. It sucks for the smaller guys and I feel bad for Al when he's not allowed to compete on a level playing field. But I'm not going to blame Kaman for doing the same thing that every other company probably has been doing for years. I'll be happy to wait in line and get my '08 Collector through Al. Although I've got to say I'm not crazy about the looks. I like black adamas guitars, and I like the sonics of a single epi cutaway. But that freaking snot blob is just too ugly for words. It'll probably be a short adoption. Dave |

this is not about me only. there are tons of dealers that did not get a heads up and probably won't. I am sure there are tons that don't care either. I just happen to be one that does care.
Ultimately it is not about where you buy an Adamas or Ovation, it's about owning the guitars. |

I wonder if this is something they've had in the works for a while...I had kind of figured that with the way they muted down the 07 Collectors they must have something incredible going for 08.
That combo of contour bowl and bass-side epis has got to be killer. |

There doesn't seem to be agreement as to which kind of bowl is "better", but clearly there is more work(cost) involved in the hand-laid bowls than the other ones. This would be reflected in price. If the molded bowl costs, say, $50...far less than wood back&sides w/bracing...shouldn't that amount to a lower priced guitar than a hand-laid bowl? |

Nobody has comfirmed the nutwidth. That would be real shame to maker it junior sized.

Sorry to bust your chops, but what about nutwidth. That's probably one of the most significant considerations to a lot of buyers.
Vision, can you measure yours? Please god let it be standard and not junior size.

The question of neckwidths came up on another forum and the product manager replied "Of COURSE it's 1-3/4, we ARE men aren't we?"
actually, the neck profile is almost more important to me than the width (within reason) but adamas seems ot be pretty consistent with the soft C, which is finew with me.

Even when I now play sitting down the contour bowl feels very comfortable to me....course that might also be due to the fact I am spending more time playing on the traditional wood boxes.

Location: Phoenix AZ | A week? Hell, I committed to take an 08C yesterday and today I got delivery of another guitar (Tak760SC). I was also shipping 3 out, so at least in the gatekeepers eyes it looked sorta good. Dave
Freaking 2-day FedEdx prices are up to $65 !!! |

but a Limited Edition of 100 is still a Limited Edition and I expect this one to be just like the 1581 (which was extremely difficult to sell) except EVEN BETTER!
Brad....You know you want one. |

The crazy thing is, I was spec'ing out my "dream" Adamas a while back, and except for the color (black was my second choice) this is EXACTLY what I picked out. Satin neck (sorry Dave), slothead, 1 3/4", bass-side epi's...gotta be killer.
Now I just have to decide if I want to part with 3 to pick up 1. |

I think today I may shoot myself in the foot and commit to a sunburst cutaway something something that along with this one and the Tak 45th will effectively remove me from the market for all of '08 (as I tap dance out of the picture). |

It's amazing how many great limited edition O's and A's have come out in the last year or two.
Of course, Al has had his hand in a bunch of them! |

I played the prototype 000/100
great sounding and playing instrument.
but what I realized as I was driving home was that this was one of the options I wanted for the OFC guitar. to make a "modern" version of the classic slothead.
or maybe I just dreamed that....
again it is a great guitar. |

Location: SoCal | Glad the OFC (and the 47RI) weren't "modernized".
The OFC and the 47RI are unique instruments. They can never replace one of the original slotheads but they are representative of the best of the technology and skills used in the original. The original slothead, the OFC, and the 47RI are guitars that we probably won't see again.
The original 2-knob pre-amp, the hand laid bowl, the detailed carving, etc.
What we saw in the original slotheads is timeless. I believe they got it right the first time.
The OFC and 47RI have allowed many others to share in the experience with the original slothead owners (past and present). |

It was the right decision to make the OFC guitar what it is.
But the 08 collectors is a very cool guitar. |

Can I buy "000" prototype? |

I tried.
I am waiting for a confirmation of when I will get my guitars and what s/n's.
when all that is firm I will send out some e mails.
I guess I am not that great of a businessman but I have issues with selling air. I would prefer to have the item in my hand or know the delivery schedule. To be honest, things have changed and I have been told one thing and another was done and told we are all turning left and then at the last minute told we were turning right that I just don't know what to say.
example. 12 and 14 fret koas. I was told delivery was 2 weeks away no more than 6 times. Finally I just gave up. I know there are people out there that will take your money and hold it FOREVER until they get a product or if they don't just say oops. I tend not to want to do that. that is why I will never become a "million dollar account". |
