Any of our budding recordists who want to get into old technology on the cheap, might want to grab this nice AKAI-GX-220D reel to reel tape machine. Great for laying down those inspirational ideas at a moments notice

wow! i use to own one of these very models. my mom and i initially purchased it in 1972 as a gift for my stepdad. i inherited it several years later. it's a great machine, but alas, i no longer own it. my stepdad had hundreds of pre-recorded reels he got while overseas in the marines. the sound duplication from this unit was the best i had ever heard or imagined at the time.

if shipping wasn't so expensive, i'd bid on it.

Looks like a nice Akai- has glass heads and the sound-on-sound button.

I've never understood eBay auctions like this one that say "FULLY FUNCTIONAL ... AS IS with no implied warranties".

If you don't have a stockpile of reel tapes, a JVC cassette deck like this one is nice. Has a pitch control, mic mixing input, and records in both sides.

I've got a 1965 Sony R to R. Still works good but I pretty much wore out the switch back in the 70s learning songs.

I had one very similar to that... after I wore out a Rheem-Roberts and a Pioneer...

I think anything up to $100 would be a good deal. If it goes over that, I would keep looking.

Cassette decks would certainly work for laying down the quick and dirty tracks but they never quite sounded as good as a reel to reel.
