Personally, I would prefer the "For Sale" section to be an area for MEMBERS to post PERSONAL GUITARS/EQUIPMENT for sale.....not a posting pot for every Craig List location or tiny music store in the country.
Am I the only one who thinks this way?
If I am, I will keep my mouth shut but I am curious how other members feel (and no....I will not do a poll!) |

I like to peruse and don't feel I need to read everything. Keywords like "Free" and "Leather" usually draw me in! |

If the guitar in question has some kind of historical or other out-of-the-ordinary appeal, then I think it's ok. |

| Agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes Yes!
I found it insulting when I offered my guitars for sale in here....to find the next morning a whole list of ebay auctions posted one after the other. Nothing but idol chatter about the color or some other worthless information....totally unworthy of discussion on this board. all the while sending my ad along with about five or six other members ad's and their great ovation guitars, to the bottom.
I may be sensitive because I was selling some great guitars that took me many years to aquire but you'd fell the same if you were in my shoes.
In fact go back and check.... there are some great guitars for sale in here..... I know Mine are not cheap and not for everyone but I am not the only guy selling. There are some good deals, dredge them up and discuss them instead of giving ebay free advertising!
If your running an ebay add yourself or you found a guitar at some local shop, by all means, post it!
Peace Love Dope!

I'm perfectly capable of doing my own ebay and CL searches, thank you very much. Keep the For Sale section for members actually selling something of their own!
Exceptions should be when you spot something truely unique and outstanding that may otherwise go un-noticed. Such as the original slothead that is on craigslist right now.

It's especially a pain when three/four people post the SAME fleaBay ad with "don't know if anybody saw this one . . . " |

(Should that be under General Forum, or could we start a chat link for value opinions?) Regarding cl, I wouldn't mind if there were infrequent postings about a really 'great deal', we cannot search every CL list everywhere in america, and a great deal is great info.
I know....what constitutes a great deal????
May your days be filled with blue skies green lights and Pink Floyd....

(Though admittedly "interesting" is a very relative term. As are "unique" and "inexpensive.") I actually tried to buy a CL guitar once that I had been tipped off to by another member's post. (Seller wouldn't ship though.) So I have since tried to return the favor, especially since I so rarely have the cash to pursue things myself. However, if it causes offense, consider it stopped...at least on my part. |

That said, around 5 years ago I found my T-head because somebody (I'm pretty sure it was Moody) posted a link to an ebay listing with a $350 Bin. I'd have missed that one otherwise. The time-zone difference helps sometimes! |

I think Randy stated it best after my initial post.
This section should be for members to offer up their guitar/equipment to other members.
Sometimes a member might not log but once a week and in the past (when this section generated 3-4 topics a week) it allowed them to maybe find a gem.
Now it has gotten to the point where there are 5-6 posts a day and a members post is quickly buried 20-30 posts deep and has little chance of being found.
I just think people no longer "look" at the intent of the "For Sale" section which is clearly posted at the top of this particular forum.
Maybe, as someone else suggested, general postings about guitars should be in the "general forum" and not in the "For Sale" section. |

| I think we all find interesting ovations to share but if we all just take into consideration those members who are trying to let the group know of a personal guitar they have for sale, and only post something of extreme interest. There is a baritone in here now that is of this "interesting" category.
It is the post after post about ebay auctions that can become an irritation to those of us using this forum to offer pieces from our own collections. And not just the post, We don't need endless replys about how pretty it is or how ugly it is.... this just adds to the injury..
No offence to anyone who has an ebay auction posted now, this goes way back and is just a general observation that has apparently finally come to a head.
Anyone who happens to be looking for an ovation, right now, please go through the older sale postings there are a bunch just this past month that were pretty impressive.

Location: Steeler Nation, Hudson Valley Contingent | I only meant to make two points: I think those of us who posted links about off-forum instruments were sincerely trying to be of service and inform others. Also, anytime caveats are permitted, there will be disagreement regarding definitions. After all, words like unique, rare, cheap, interesting, etc. have different meanings to different folks.
But all of that aside, my final statement was the most important. I (and apparently others) have inadvertently / unintentionally given offense. For that I apologize. Only a crass, self-absorbed, blow-hard of a know-it-all would continue to do so once they were informed. I give seminars all the time in which I encourage people to state their concerns. I tell them that for every person willing to speak up, there are likely dozens who silently cheer them for doing so. I also tell them that if they are ever on the receiving end of such concerns, to take it as it is intended: a no-harm-no-foul opportunity to see another's point of view and cease causing concern. And despite rumors to the contrary (mostly spread by certain male siblings), I actually do try to practice what I preach. |

I know I'm not the only one to throw up Ebay guitars here(although I have probably been notorious about doing so), but I never carefully read the opening statement on the for sale board. I have to say though, that I have got the heads-up here about some nice guitars that Ebay didn't message me on. The baritone that was previously mentioned is a prime example. If I would have seen that guitar and the buy-it-now option before someone bid on it, I would have snagged it. I guess that would be considered one of the "guitars of interest" that some of you spoke of. I actually thought I was being helpful, but I will be just as glad to stop. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and once again ... I apologize. |

As we all know, my taste in guitars (not to be confused with my ability to play said guitars, so shut up Clifford!) is second to none (or maybe four), so I'll be damned if I feel guilty about it.
It also doesn't hurt that I went out to lunch and had a few beers....... |

That it somehow got a little over-done happens from time to time. No big deal. It's noted. Now we'll all get it back in line and move on.

I agree with most here in that all the past postings were for the membership's benefit. Also if I were to post a 'sale', I would be discouraged with being pushed to the bottom due to the 'sightings' contributions.
As others have expressed, there is no need for anyone to apologize for feeding us leads. Newbies, such as I, have and will continue to deepen our appreciation of the 'O' via the vast knowledge base and kindness of the 'O Pack'.

I've been guilty of posting the occasional eBay or CL find that I thought might be of interest (purely subjective, of course), so my apologies to any member whose personal for sale post I might have buried.
At the same time, I like the fact that some folks scour sites that I normally don't (or don't know about) and have seen some interesting stuff. |

[/QB] The 'door' is kinda left ajar with this statement at the FOR SALE heading:
This area is NOT intended as a "classifieds" section, but more like the bulletin board
Therefore I see no need in apologizing. We just need to 'fine tune' a bit. ;) |

How about ONE thread for flee-bay, Craigslist, off-site, et al stuff? See a new one, stick it there and it's all in one neat pile!
Eg: Off Site For Sale |

Just sayin'. |
