Location: Palisade,CO | What are deacons or breadwinners going for in decent shape? Or even poor condition....I wouldn't mind a restoration project or something to use as the template to build a replica. I'm not sure what Ovation would think of that |

Location: Yorkshire, England | I bought a badly abused Deacon from the US about 7-8 months ago and ended up having to carve my own body. Done quite a jolly good job as well, if I say so myself. (Wish I knew how to load photos on these posts and I would show you!) Not taken for granted that I recieved quite a lot of advice from some of the OFC members, (especially Mike) re: fitting of a new Schaller bridge, etc. After colouring as original, decided to remove the stain and leave it natural mahogany. This looks really effective - I've often wondered what it might look like with a Woody special veneered pickguard though ! Wish I could just refurbish Ovation electrics as a full time job !

Location: enid, ok | Try a whammy bar. I've been wanting to do that to a deacon/breadwinner for years. Hate to carve one up that much, but I'm curious. All those tones and a whammy bar with that playability and quality? You'd have the godzilla of solid-bodies! |

Give Miles a call and discuss the nuances of benders, bigsby's abd Whammy Bars. He has a few proto and fringe set ups and knows what to do with them. I am the type that leaves the trem bar in the case. |

Location: Utah | Pablo, you're looking at about $600 for a beater, and more like $750 and up for a nice condition guitar. Prices have been going up pretty high recently, and honestly it seems that sellers think their guitar is worth more than it is.
You'll save money buying a nice condition guitar with all original parts, compared to buying a fixer-upper. Project worthy guitars will cost a lot to replace things like the pick guard, and get original pickups and electronics. If it's all original but chewed up, it might be worth looking at. But be sure the neck is in excellent condition. |
