The Martin OM series are their best all around instrument. IMHO. Good luck with the sale Dave.
Oh well back to drooling. :( |

Any nibbles on this yet? Nibbles and a few hungry stomachs. And a few "Gee, I could buy this OM28 or I could buy four Ovation Ultra's." Yeah, I guess you could.
Guitars in this ballpark always seem to find their way into the right hands eventually.

The Norman Blake is a 12 fret version of the OM28. Another good one. Actually I had that one put away for awhile and recently got it out and re-discovered how good it really is.

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Don't know about Dave but the EF75 is a much more pleasing guitar for me than either of the Martins I have (000-28 Norm Blake and HD28VS).
Not to say any of them are better or worse. A Martin has that Martin sound and as good as my two are, I just prefer the sound of the Tak.
Feel wise, they are all good! |

Location: Phoenix AZ | EF75 vs. OM28V is a tough call. They are very different guitars in terms of tone and feel. People are jumping to the conclusion "oh Dave is selling the OM28V and keeping the EF75, nice endoresment that the Tak is superior."
Not so. The OM28V is getting sold because it is completely redundent to my OM42 and OM42PS. Simple economics and space constraints I can't keep all three.
EF75 and OM28V can't easily be compared. At times I prefer the tone of the Tak, other times I prefer the Martin. They're close. Tak looks nicer (more bling) and has electronics. Martin plays better. You can't keep them all.

You've obviously deluded yourself into thinking that we take you WAY too seriously . . . |

Location: Chehalis, Washington | Hey Dave, it's of course too late now, but have you played one of the 000-28EC model Martins by any chance? I've been toying with picking up one of those lately, and I'm curious how comparable they are in actual setup. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | OM-28V and 000-28EC are quite different guitars.
000-28EC is a short scale guitar (24.9") and has heavier 5/16 braces. OM-28V is a standard 25.4" scale and lighter 1/4 braces.
Personal preference which you like. I find the OM to be more open and airy sounding, also louder. The EC has some nice cosmetic touches like the herringbone rosette and glossed neck.
Both nice, but you pay a lot for the EC name. If they were identically priced and identical cosmetics I'd still pick the OM for the sound.

Location: Chehalis, Washington | That's interesting - I hadn't noticed the scale difference.
I've also been toying around with picking up a Larrivee 000-60, 12 fret slothead, which I have heard great things about. I haven't played much with that body size, though it's a size/shape that appeals to me very much.
Congrats on the sale btw. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | A short scale (24.9) guitar fells just about like playing a regular scale guitar capo'd at the 1st fret.
If you want something VERY cool look for a 000-28 Norman Blake model. It's a short scale, but it's a 12 fret neck on an OM body. It puts the bridge right in the bulls-eye of the top and it sounds like a cannon. The slotted headstock, waverly tuners and wide neck don't at all suck, either.

Slotted headstock, 12 frets to the body, vintage bracing, sounds even and smooth across the strings. Excellent for strumming, picking, or finger style. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Well, the OM-28V is coming to a great home where it will garner a lot of attention and play time. I also want to take a minute and say a big thank you to Dave for holding this for me while some crazy financing was arranged (Paul, yes, the churches took up an offering Sunday: but I was in Amelia in the AM and driving home for the rest of the day).
Seriously, Dave could have said no and sold the guitar several times perhaps but he knew it would be a great pair with the 48 D-28 and so he worked it out! For all the stuff he endures, he's a fine friend and a serious guitar guy! I'm thrilled to have this fine Martin coming to SW VA! Thanks Dave! |
