Alex Lifeson has always been my #1 influence on the guitar though. I can pretty much say it was those dudes that got me excited about buying an electric guitar... and for me, that's kinda where it all started. |

The Bear Brother's Band. Bluegrass, Jam, Folk, Blues and Rock from Northern NJ, late 1970's, they showed me the way and are now defunct.
Current favorite indie touring band:
Packway Handle Band
Oldies major touring band:
Allman Bros.
Newbies major touring band:
Robert Randolf
Major defunct band:
Tie, The Clash, The Ramones, Violent Femmes and Devo, Old and in the Way ...
I could keep going! |

Pankow I saw this band as a warmup band way back when. Thought they stole the show. The headliner? Jimi Hendrix.
Back to the question. Lotta great bands mentioned that at one time or another I was heavily in to(Yes, Three Dog Night, Pink Floyd, Toto, Dregs, Stray Cats). Others like Kansas, Leroux, ZZ Top and Journey also made an impression. But to pick one alltime fave, well, uh, I guess the name says it all. Beatles.

Since I have gone through full circle in my life starting with early rock-n-roll/blues, rock, then rock turned metal & I hated that direction so I turned country for a decade, got tired of that went classic rock when that came back on strong but got burned out on that fairly quickly & went back to blues.
If I could only pick one, it just may be
John Mayall, at over 70 years old still going & over 50 albums. Assembling more people in bands & recordings than anyone I know. The original Blues Breakers from Clapton to people like Peter Green (From the original Fleetwood Mac when they were a blues band & the girls came in & they turned to crap, yes my opinion)
Yeah he dosen't play guitar but has played with the finest in the business.

Just for that, here...

I think her "look" did her career in.
As for Celine... As Al would say, "I just threw up a little bit... in my mouth" |

In spite of the vid I still love that song!
an4340, I watched "Up With Peaple" performing in an USAF hanger in '68. The show happened to coincide with the 250,000 hours of accident free flight hours celebration at the base. The next day a student pilot pancaked a F-102 upon 'landing'. So much for 'up with landing gear'... :D |

I think G-inski was serious. We've got another slothead owner on this board who toured his slothead with Up With People for like 8 years. And he's more normal than most of us.
Susan Cowsill is still making records. The recent one is supposed to be quite good - at least that's what the Amazon review said when it gave me the "you might like" dance. She's pretty hot for an old chick. Still. ;) |

beatlejuice53 mentioned seeing Chicago warm up for Jimi Hendrix. In the liner notes for one of the Chicago album remasters, there is an anecdote about Hendrix saying to one of the Chicago members, "Your guitar player (Terry Kath) is better than me." |

Been listening to Fred Eaglesmith a lot lately - 20 years ago I wouldn't have listened to stuff like that at all. |

And I don't believe anybody's name is Eaglesmith. How are people with the name Fartbucket supposed to compete? |

And I don't believe anybody's name is Eaglesmith. How are people with the name Fartbucket supposed to compete? He's from Ontario. Grew up on farms in the south west where they grow tobacco. Been around in music since the 80s AFAIK. He's about 50 or so. I think he's a good songwriter and his voice suits the stuff he writes.
You can get these songs on Limewire: Codeine; Carmelita; Water In Fuel; Alcohol and Pills; Tired; I shot Your Dog; John Deer.
I don't know for sure if his name really is Eaglesmith but I suspect it might be as he doesn't seem like someone who would make up a stage name for himself but you never know. |

| Well, I was wrong his real name is Fred Elgersma - we have some people with mixed aboriginal heritage and a name like Eaglesmith wouldn't be immediately suspect as having been made up.
With a name like Elgersma I can understand why he'd change it..lol |

| PS - Fred's voice sounds really good on his studio recordings - the live youtube stuff doesn't sound quite the same for whatever reason.

But the sound doesn't sync to the video like it does on my computer, and the music don't sound the same either.

Hank didn't play anything when I first met him - then he bought a Dobro and got good pretty fast.
Check out the link that I edited into my previous post - Alcohol and Pills. Seems like a good song to me - simple and to the point. I've listened to a lot of fancy music along the way but truth seems more important to me now that my past has been paved over and urbanized ..lol |
