Location: Michigan | Last night my better half had some people over from an art class she attends every week.
One of her artist friends had mentioned that her husband was heavily involved in guitar theory and is a teacher and that he would like to bring a guitar over and jam a bit with me.He came over with a left handed Guild acoustic .He was admiring my guitars and I said its to bad that he was a lefty because I wanted to hear him play my guitars. He said thats no problem and grabs my Adamas 12 string and starts plucking away right handed.I stood in awe at the talent of this guy and then he says play something and I will follow you, I pooped myself for a minute thinking this is like a Frank Zappa asking a first grader to play with him.It all was good and we played for a couple of hours with a great audience.I havent played in front of a group of people for over 35 years , it was great. Its amazing that someone can play a guitar with the strings on righthanded or lefthanded.Just for SH%TS & Giggles I had to pick up his lefty and try to play it.IMPOSSIBLE for me to do.
It boggles my mind how anyone could do that.
Are their any famous guitar players that you know that can do that?
Can anyone here play both ways???
:( I MEAN GUITAR :( . GWB. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | I got a left-handed classical guitar in on consignment a couple of weeks ago. A bunch of us sat around one day and tried playing it. It was hilarious! Some of us did OK with D and A, but C was a real toughie. As a finger-picker, my nails got in the way, but I could see that if anything ever happened to my left hand, it would be possible to learn to chord and strum with a hook if need be.
I often get kids in who are left-handed, wanting to buy a guitar and take lessons. I encourage them to start out right-handed. They have such a larger choice in guitars, they don't have to pay an extra hundred bucks, and if they aren't already used to playing left-handed, there is really no difference, (except that I have to admit that lefties seem to have more talent. Jarrett Weimer, my super-kid who is the best young guitarist I have ever met in 36 years of teaching is one of them.) |

Location: CA | You think that's hard, I remember reading about a young baseball pitcher (in Puerto Rico, I think) who was passionate about going to the big leagues until he was told there were already too many right-handed pitchers. So he switched and became so proficient with his left that he eventually had a shot at the bigs. Can't remember the name, but the story was great.
Having done a bit of magic (in addition to guitar playing) in my youth, I also have high respect for people who can 'perform' equally with both hands. I've tried time and time again to palm coins in my left hand and it just ain't a-gonna happen. LOL
Additional meaningless tidbit — I work in publishing and the only triple-redundancy I've seen in 30 years was in a story describing a jockey who, it noted, "was equally ambidextrous with both hands." |

I believe the guy at Apple Music told me that the only guitars that don't cost more for lefties are Larrivee's, cuz the owner/designer/whomever is Left-handed. (correct me if I am wrong)
But back to ambidextrous... There is always this guy... But I don't know if this counts, or it's just a little gimmick. |

Think about it...your left hand is your "smart" hand, so it would follow that doing the complicated stuff that our left hands do, while our right hands do the easy part would make you better guitarists than us righties. My sister is left handed, and she's incredibly talented. I know you've had to go through life pinching your hand on the scissors and smearing ink on the page, but I'm still jealous. |

Being left handed, I've always thought that if I had any talent (which I don't), that having my left hand on the fingerboard is the best thing..... |

Steve Morse is a lefty plays righty. Hendrix could play a lefty guitar, or a righty flopped over.

Location: Michigan | stephent28, you really need to chill out about caps lock so you dont have a stroke over it.
I take it that you are a guitar player and most likely have your own style of playing.
I remember Frank Zappa ,The Kingsmen ect. getting pulled into this type of situation on someone wanting them to change the lyrics of their songs because some people thought that it was disrespectfull to some people hearing those lyrics.
I have my own style of posting and that is posting in CAPS.You keep telling me in my posts that I am disrespectfull and annoying because I type my posts in CAPS.That is not my intention.
When I joined the OFC thats the way I did posts, and until a couple of years later did someone say something about I was yelling. It just became a thing I do and its my style so "gees" lighten up on it.
We have members that misspell every other word ( JA%ON )and I guess to an English teacher that might offend them , but most of us have some fun with it . Out of the hundreds of posts that I have done I have only heard about it a few times. PLEASE dont be offended by my CAPS.
All people have different styles and Im not going to change mine because a few take a dislike to it , thats just me.
I hope that anyone who feels disrespected because of my CAPS ...
I APOLOGIZE TO YOU BUT GET USED TO IT.
I do not take any personal offense to anyone on this subject because that is your style on not liking my CAPS.
I CAN RESPECT YOU FOR THAT. PEACE...GWB |

THEN, it's ok. Kept to a minimum.
I originally picked you up on it in private - a friendly suggestion that you curtail this habit. You basically said that's what you always did on eBay and your thread headers. I can understand using this method to get attention on eBay. I might even adopt that one myself as a marketing strategy.
But if someone asked me to stop... I'd stop.
Ignoring my request / suggestion and your continued use of this style is emphatically saying to me "screw you".
No, actually you're saying "SCREW YOU!"
Other members have also picked you up on it and you continue to do it. "SCREW THEM TOO" eh?
Yeah. It bothers me. But not JUST me.
Why are you being so arrogant about this? We're all friends here, why do you continue to do things that piss your friends off?
SHOUTING! is frowned upon / condemned internationally on the internet, not just by a couple of anally retentive Old Farts.
HEY Y'ALL! LOOKY HERE. I'VE PUT UP ANOTHER THREAD! Let the subject of your thread attract attention, not the font.
And your threads ARE ALWAYS interesting. Keep it up. I mean that.
But DON'T keep subliminally telling me to get screwed BY IGNORING MY REQUEST (and others.)
And no, it's not like somebody who continually makes spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Not all of us have degrees. Most times, they're either dealing with real literacy issues (Ja%on) or are just poor typists (you know who you are.)
These people don't choose to annoy anyone with their 'mistakes'. You CHOOSE to annoy people.
That's the difference!
Please stop posting thread headers in all capitals.
Thank you. |

The initial requests regarding it were polite & pleasant enough . .
. . and were ignored.
It's since denegrated to coming down to verbal blows.
If you find the whole "caps" thing annoying (like I do), and the individual just simply REFUSES, I would suggest just completely IGNORING any & all posts/polls posted in this fashion (like I do).
For the most part, they're usually pretty INSIPID and INANE, anyway . . . |

Sometimes, knowing that about Clifford, it scares the hell outta me..... In the computer geek industry, we call that CamelCase . I guess around here we should call it LlamaCase.
Regarding the all caps equals shouting issue.. it's been part of common-sense "Netiquette" for more than 25 years for a reason. Online text (email, forums, etc) lacks cues like facial expression and tone of voice. In the absence of those cues, recipients are left with little basis to interpret emotion. Things like typing in all caps, no caps, spelling and grammatical errors, typing without punctuation, etcetera are the only basis upon which the recipient can establish emotional context. You're typing your words in the comfort of your own home or office knowing your own intention, but remember those words are being read by hundreds, if not thousands, of people all over the world who don't have the benefit of that knowledge.
You can say I'M NOT SHOUTING until you're blue in the face, but in a lot of peoples' eyes, you're always going to be starting off your conversations on the wrong foot.. even for those people who've read this thread and know you don't mean any offense. It's like a " close talker ".. they don't mean to violate anybody's personal space, but they do it anyway and it makes people uncomfortable.
If you're typing in all caps because it's easier for you to see, I'd suggest you explore the default font settings and zooming capabilities of your browser and operating system. |
