Location: big island | okay guys and gals, i have got an extreme case of collings sj gas and a potential of curing it but only with your help.
i am very hesitantly offering up for sale three of my excellent stringed instruments in order to help fund this cure.
1) ovation solidbody viper in sunburst, exc. condition. fender gigbag, $500 plus shipping to wherever.
2) the ovation viper EA-68, black, that i just bought from instantkarma, near mint with one tiny ding on front. awesome player/gigger, dangit! OHSC, $750 plus shipping to wherever.
3) my excellent 2007 takamine EF340S bluegrasser in near mint condition, couple tiny blemishes on sides from a stand, stamped "USED" due to a bit of clear overspray which i have buffed out. phenomenal player. ouch, this hurts! superior "bodyglove" gig bag or well used but great TKL hardcase, $800 plus shipping to wherever.
photos are available upon request. i need to act fast on the collings so please don't deliberate or i will most likely bloat up and expire before my time. ;) |

Dave my EF75 can't go anywhere. and i don't believe it would be fair to compare it with this collings. not only that, but you, beal, stephen and now moody have all thrown logs on this collings fire. i've never played one. but i never played an ovation or adamas before runnin' into you "scoundrels" either. |

Nice!......way to jump into the deep end of the pool on your first attempt at swimming with the sharks!
What's the top? My all maple C-10 Deluxe has an Adirondack top and man is it sweet sounding. |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | Randy, I liked the Collins as well as everybody else and certainly will attest to its excellent tone, looks and construction. However, until they come with preamps, I'm passing. I know we can always add one later, but I defer to the factory. If the blond SJ had a line driver like the Tak 75, I'd be looking at it much more seriously. There's two cents for the account. |

My maple C-10 Deluxe has the K&K installed. Totally invisible to the eye with an endpin output jack and it sounds very very natural when plugged into the GB. |

I read that < 10% of electronics on Martins are actually factory installed. I wouldn't think twice about putting a K&K, Fishman or LRBaggs in a Collings.

Location: big island | fortunately, i have experienced installing many pickup systems in acoustic guitars. i don't hesitate a moment when considering adding one to this guitar, if i can somehow work out getting it. i'm not feeling TOO bloated this morning so i will probably survive if i have to delay the gratification for awhile. |

Location: Tennessee | Wow ... tough one Randy. It'd take a lot to get me to give up my 1271 Viper, EA68 Viper, or 340 Bluegrasser. Then again, I too am jonesing a little bit for a Collings, but the one that bit me is the slope shouldered sunburst AJ with the braz body. But something else would have to go first ... those three guitars are long term keepers for me. |

Location: big island | i hear ya' stone! but outta my very limited corral, those three are the likeliest suspects. of course, i don't wanna sell any of them but doing so would get me closer to the current goal quicker. my wife would be okay if i just found satisfaction in gazing at the photo of the guitar on my fridge. |

Location: big island | arnaud,
it's just one of those inborn traits of the hunter. call it a syndrome if you want to. i don't wanna sell, i wanna buy. this operates on the pain vs. pleasure principle. in this case, i am willing to absorb a bit of pain for the expected ultimate pleasure. sometimes the expectations don't measure up though and that's a risk that must be taken.
the caveat is that i gave myself only 24 hours to chase this "prey" by sacrificing a few other "victims". that time limit is a couple hours away.
i will then cancel the sacrifice and be content with what i have already hunted. i do have my sights on another option (different "prey") that would not necessitate a sacrifice too. |

48 hours earlier and I would have taken that custom off your hands, you would have only needed to sacrifice one instead of three  |

Location: Bay Area, CA | Randy I understand the pull. For me it started with a Martin HD-28V. She was a beauty, and amazing wood tone. But the action was really high (hard to get used to after many years of Ovations), and the V models do not have a removable bridge, so rather than mess it up, I traded "sideways" for a Collings D2H. Now that was the grail and I mean it. Wow, no comparison to the Martin, just a whole n'other level.
But I did wind up selling it, and I'm very happy back with my Adamii and Elite. My 1778LX has much of the Martin/Collings wood tone, but is so much easier to play, has even volume across the strings, great electronics, and much less to worry about in terms of investment "at risk"--I was afraid to take the Collings out of the house! But the Collings, you gotta get one someday, it really is that grail, and you have to experience it. Try the CJ too, in sunburst, just like Lyle ;-) My $.02 |
