I'm toying with the idea of looking to swap something like a U681, or maybe a 1680 for my Folklore DeLuxe...
Perhaps others who have both (Tup, Tony, Bill?) might offer their opinions of this bout of insanity...
I'm a wide-neck, full-body, fingerpickin' kinda guy who has reached a bit of a flat spot in my Peak Experience!
Thoughts, comments and inquiries are very welcomed...Mahalos~ |

Location: Phoenix AZ | FD14 vs. U681 is a drop dead no brainer - KEEP THE FD14 !!!!
Reasons:
1. FD14 is far more rare, especially if you include U681 and 1680 as basically the same guitar.
2. FD14 is a unique Ovation sound. It's the only one that really has the woody Martin sound. If you demand a roundback and want the Martin sound the FD14 is the only guitar that'll give it to you.
U681 and the other adamas guitars are GREAT and some would say superior to the FD14. But they (the adamas) are all sort of similar to each other, whilst the FD14 is absolutely unique among all other Ovations.
Just my opinion.

Location: Simpsonville, SC | Variety is the spice of life though. I bought a great 1658 CL from Mister Golf last year, yet yearned for an Adamas 12, soooo...sold the CL and got one.
MG, I know how it is with GAS and will live with my regrets, but how the hell else can you give them all a try?
Trader Jim knows!
BTW, the UTE is different then the others (not saying better, but definitely different in an Adamas sorta way), much as I suspect that the 1778T's are different than the 1778's, 6778's, etc.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. ;) |

Who ever has it has a really great guitar.
Jim,
When are you going to get another one? |

Location: SoCal | FD-14 is a great guitar, very unique, another excelent example of the work of the guys and gals at the factory. I released 43/50 a little over two years and a half years ago (10/04).
I just didn't see it as an every day "go-to" guitar. Hard to tell why, maybe the cedar top, limitations of the pre-amp...wouldn't recommend it if it would be someone's only guitar.
Outside of a small circle within the OFC, I don't believe it has that much exposure.
However, I would recommend anyone who is serious about Ovations get one, even if it is only for a short time, just to experience what this great guitar is.
As to the U681T, that was one of the greatest opportunities that I am aware of...textured top, 12-fret, OP-Pro w/XLR, slothead for a low price (at least for a textured top Adamas). Heck the CVT 1680 is easily a $1,000 more. Yet, it will hold its own with any of the top of the line textured top Adamas, to include the 1687, 47RI, OFC, and 2008 Collectors. Want to play w/lights, want to blow out the windows with mediums, acoustic or a/e. |

I could blame Adamas 12 GAS, but that would just be a lame excuse. It went to a good home briefly, yet made a long journey after that. My humblest apologies! |

Location: Gig Harbor, Washington | Hey y'all...I've made some deep considerations on this whole crazy idea - and have decided to retain the FD...should I consider to let it go sometime in the future - I shall certainly let the OFC family know (Brad's got 1st dibs)...
Thanks, Tup, for your insightful exhortation and the "drop dead no brainer" clarity that I often find myself in desparate search for...I highly value the wisdom and commaraderie I find here (that my wife can't quite provide on this subject!).
Blessings to y'all~ |

I'm open to the idea - I let Woody housesit the FD a couple years ago when I had my shoulder surgery! It came back with several drool marks on it though! Just kidding... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Depending upon my transportation from the airport, maybe we could work out someplace to meet and I could pick it up and Woody could take it back to you afterwards. Of course if he is driving down to Gig Harbor to pick it up, maybe he could just swing over and pick me up at the airport. I realize that getting the FD14 to the gig would be more important than getting me there. |

Barring sales or trades I intend to bring:
Custom Elite 12 String BCS
KoaLA V 14 fretter
JM Deacon
Koa Viper Hybrid
Aussie Jame's Projects (2 and holding)
Andrews Project
A Possible "Door Prize" Viper
The "Moody PI" signature prototype wideneck/slothead/Brown Bowl/tensioned soundboard semi-reissue.
Kayaks
Amps/Pedals/Stuff
FD-14 for MG 007?
I'd be happy to maybe bring someone's really cool guitar if they send it out this week? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I was planning on taking the shuttle that goes to the hotel. I wouldn't want to take up any space in anyone's vehicle that could be used for a guitar. I will buy the gas, though, if someone is coming past the airport and has room for me on the 4th. |
