Location: Phoenix AZ | Rare ACADEMY guitar on ebay. This version with the rosewood fretboard, wideneck and slotted headstock is the one you want. These things are amazing ...
ACADEMY SLOTHEAD
I'm not the seller.

Academy label + FRG sticker = "RECONDITIONED BY ACADEMY".
Slothead + non-pinned bridge = a classical guitar.... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Dave, you know how to send me a private message. Next time you see one of those great deals that might sneak by under the radar, you know what to do. Better yet, just buy it and bring it to dinner Wednesday. Mrs. MIB would really appreciate that. She seemed to prefer being called that to being called SWMBO by the way. |

There, I feel better now.
I think there's always a couple of OFC members watching any unusual or underpriced guitar, even before it's posted here. Plus the lurkers and nonmembers who read these threads (assuming there are any!).

Location: Boise, Idaho | It's pretty tough to sneak one by this bunch. Some of the best deals recently, however, have been on this board.
The main reason I want an Academy is because they used to be so cheap that I could probably sneak it in the house without SWMBO getting too pissed. It sort of worked with the last Ultra GS I bought, but this Academy is already approaching that price. |

It's still under $150 with 6 days and one hour to go. |

Just bring it through the door when she's not home. With that many guitars how would she notice? My SWMBO would certainly notice any additions to my small collection, even if I hid it in the cupboard. I could hid it at the back of the black hole under the stairs, but then it would take me 1/2 an hour to dig it out. |

LOL...
I've been keeping an eye out for these. I'm guessing they made a boat load of them, and as they are virtually indestructible, it's just a matter of time before I land one. I really don't have any extra cash these days anyway.. but it's nice to dream. |

So, Dave, these critters were actually made with blue tops?! That is really cool. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Poor man's Folklore? Maybe in price. The FD14 Folklore Deluxe is in another league, but in my opinion the Academy stands out over any standard Folklore 1114, 1614 or 6774. I've owned them side by side and it ain't supposed to be that way, but it is. Go figger. The slothead ones have a nice fat neck which makes it a joy to play.

Y'know, with the bolt-on neck......who's gonna know?.......
Oh well, the slothead Academy is pretty rare, already.
Keeps the conversation lively, anyway. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Yes, the KA-17 came in both the cream color and the baby blue. 12 fret wideneck, slothead, rosewood fingerboard. Some had adjustable saddles, some were fixed. Some had the thin floral rosette, some had the wide one. Deep bowl only.
KA-14 also came in both cream and baby blue color. 12 fret regular headstock. Aluminum fretboard. Was a 12 fret version of the Matrix neck. Some had adjustable saddles, some were fixed. Some had the thin floral rosette, some had the wide one. Deep bowl only.

M.C. Squared, is it difficult to do a neck reset on these things? Looks like it's held by a couple of bolts, is there any glue?

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | No glue, & neck resets are, comparative-to-glued, "a walk-in-the-park". Strategically placed shims, is all it takes.
Bad influence?! I resemble that remark!!
At least, we don't suffer in silence! |
