I'm cash poor right now, but someone in Philladelphia has put up ads for seven, count'em SEVEN  , Adamas 6's and 12's on Craigs List. All of them look reasonable.

There is no continuity to the pictures.
Some look photo-shopped and the others all look like different homes.

the blue band on the guitar stand is fairly consistent. note that although the title may say "1978" on some of the guitars, the descriptions all say "1980". that person in philly wouldn't price 'em so ridiculously low, would he?

I've received emails from the listing dated May 18. He has also sent me some photos. He said he would prefer to sell locally but is considering shipping. I have forwarded those photos to some Trader and Dave for their opinions. As a result I have asked the lister for some additional photos.

Al,

The seller's name is Norman Le Donne. Is this the person you were referring to?

Just got off the phone with Norm (the seller). He says scam also. The wording in all of the descriptions is a direct copy from his listing but those are not his pictures and he does not have those guitars. He only has the one in the original posting. I had a good enough phone conversation with him to make me believe he is straight up so I'm headed up to Philadelphia this afternoon. :D :D :D
I would approach the other guitars with EXTREME caution.

kotadawg, I did get the 1718 and still owe you an opinion on its comparison to the 1537. I'm packing up to go right now but I'll report in again when I get back.

Wish me luck.

Otto

You're welcome, Randy. I apologize again for taking so long.

Al,

I sent my first email Monday during the day. He didn't reply until late that night and some of his responses took a couple of days. He either doesn't check his email often, or wasn't in a hurry to deal with shipping.

Well I’m back. My head is still off in the clouds somewhere, though. Had a great spur of the moment road trip (just like being 21 again). Got to spend two solid days with my best girl and my youngest son. Met a new friend who introduced me to the Harp Guitar and graced us with a small performance on 20 strings. And came home with a most amazing instrument.

It’s much nicer than those first pics allowed. It's been very well kept. The red is rich and warm, not as stark as I had worried it might be. And my heart ‘bout stopped when I hit that first chord. The fresh strings were part of it but there’s so much more to this. Now I know what everyone means when they talk about the Adamas sound. The open top on a grand piano comparison came immediately to mind. Exceptionally strong. And sweet.

Al, if I have one regret this weekend it is that I found out only after I was home and reading the board that I was only 20 minutes away from meeting you. I sure hope there are no hard feelings with a FNG rookie walking away with this one. It was certainly not my intent to jump in front of anybody. Norm did say that there were “folks interested” but for whatever reasons, we connected and were exchanging information right off. This all fell together like it was meant to happen. And for what it’s worth, this guitar couldn’t have a more loving home right now. I am a very contented man tonight.

Otto

Otto,

As I said before, Norm and I were emailing, but he didn't know if he wanted to ship. You were willing to make the drive so you earned it. It definitely does look better in your pictures than in the ones Norm sent. Congratulations.

No hard feelings

hate to see one get away in my own back door, but it happens, you can't get them all.

things were kinda crazy around here the past few days with family stuff meltdowns so i am not sure if we could have hooked up anyway.

Naw, it was $1200, Wayne. The serial is 560-93. Guess it's not a 1980 after all. Dang! I got stuck with a guitar that's two years older than what I thought I was buying. Oh well... it did come with the soft cover for the case so I guess I still did all right. ;) Okay, I'm kidding. I'm KIDDING!!!

Seriously, thanks for the congrats, guys. It's a great feeling to acquire a guitar of this caliber but it's an even greater feeling knowing that my joy is shared by others. Hopefully some of y'all can share this baby first hand at SSJII next month. We are planning on being there.

Did I just say "y'all...??

#560 ? Signed Charles H. Kaman probably ? It is a beautiful red 1687-2 from 1978 : rare and excptional acoustic sounding Adamas (original longitudinal carbon graphit and no suspended ring mount... appeared in 1979 around #600) ! Congrats Otto this is really an amazing guitar... much more value than the price you paid for it... and so beautiful in red with the original and so beautiful 13 pieces exotics hardwood ! Congrats agaIsn't it Jerome ?

I was so envious I did a search of Craigslist last night. I didn't find anything. I sure like those red ones. If you are bored with it by the end of next month, Otto, could you bring it up to Charlotte and loan it to me for a week?
