I think this is one of the best looking:
and this is one of the ugliest:

Anything with a carved headstock comes in a close second, but my total distaste for the acarth/abacat/acnath (dammit, Cliff) BROCOLLI carved headstock is well documented. |

| I've never been a fan of the looks of Adamas guitars.
They just sound better than anything else.
I love Custom Legends - all the bling - and Folklore/Country Artist - none of the bling.
And I've never been a fan of blue guitars. |

Ugliest, one of those purple acne topped imports, or my all time fav, My Other aBortion. |

Worst looking...those flat black elites without any epaulet detailing. I dislike it for the same reason I dislike motorcycles and cars with black wheels. |

I personally can't stand the look of the "snakeskins", but I'm not known for my fashion sense anyway. |

Of the Collector series, I agree with Richard on that 89? Never liked that headstock. |

Location: CA | As I've said before, the Adamas with all the gee-gaw carving and that 'rope' binding and sparkly paint look like Barbie toys to me. Sorry. I'm sure someday I'll 'acquire the taste' but so far, yeesh.
Most of the rest of the O/A line all have their good/bad points. I think the custom legends are particularly pretty with their MOP binding. On side-holers, I much prefer 'outie' epaulets to 'innies.' And on center-hole guitars I like any Ovation WITHOUT that clunky plastic thingie around the hole, such as the guitar above. If I were the CEO-for-a-day at Ovation, the first and only thing I would do is ban those things from any new American-made Ovation and 90% of the Celebs. All those guitars would get inlay around the center hole from that day forward. All those leftover cheap-looking plastic things could be used on the cheap Applause line, which is where they belong.
Thats my 2 cents (actually about 3 cents, sorry I went over the limit) |

I'll join in with Schroeder with praise for the design on the Custom Legend. Classic, but not plain.

There's something about it that just speaks to me --- so much that I'm pricing one out, with a few tweaks, to be specially built for me..... |

Your choice is for 'best of' is very close to my choice, and for good reason.
My choice for 'worst of' would be that custom Adamas that was for sale repeatedly on EBay a while back, that had the endorsees pics painted on it...ugh.
Best, and the one that kind of really got the ball rolling...

Jon; I got that guitar from Louie Shelton, whom I'm sure you are well aware of with your appreciation for studio guitarists.
Actually, FA, I just love the old style Adammi particularly the slot-head types. These would be my second-favourite. Don't have one, though...yet! |

Yes he did. I probably told this story before but if not:
I purchased the guitar from session guitarist Louie who was in the house band of the "Goodtime Hour" for two years, and a long time friend dating back to Glen's New Mexico days in the late ‘50’s. Glen had convinced Louie to come out to the coast to try his hand at session work. When the Goodtime Hour Show started, Glen called Louie to see if he would be a guitarist in the house band.
One day on the set, Louie was having some problems with whatever guitar he was using on the set and Glen said "Here, you can have this one"...the GCDB #1. Louie kept it all those years until I got it from him, which was in 2002, when he sold off a number of his instruments.
I still play it quite often but have more or less retired it as far as taking it out anywhere. I have enough other choices not to risk damaging this one. |

I remember cutting out the little 'send in for a free catalogue' (which I still have) from one of the ads featuring this guitar.
My original memories of it are b&w as well but fortunately there are colored versions of those memories around these days!
Actually, this memory is still black and white in a way, but it is a good way. |

Its the traditional custom legend in black.
It may be the best looking guitar from any company.
Uglist MT37-5, heroin diaries, My Other Board, Eclipse, T357, T257, some others.
In general I don't care for the enamal finish.
Personally I though the Thunderbolt was ugly and had to be talked into trying it.
The feel and sound made it gorgious. |
