I just replaced my Vintage Acoustic Research AR12 speakers with some of those surround sound things.
Anyway, I bought them new in the Navy in about 1977 or 78. I replaced the rubber woofer surrounds about 3 years ago, and the foam grills are now a wood frame with speaker cloth (old foam disintegrated), but they absolutely sound fantastic.
My darling daughter pushed in the tweeter dome (just a fabric dust cover, not part of the speaker) when she was five...24 years ago, and the walnut cabs are in very good condition, but do show some marks and one has some water damage on the bottom.
They are heavy beasts, so I don't know what it would cost to ship them. One ebay vintage expert said they should bring $150 to $200 each as described. I would be tickled to get $200 plus actual shipping for the pair just so someone else can enjoy them. The AR12's are a 3 way with 10" woofer. They are air suspension (sealed cabinet) and deliver huge tight driving bass, not that boomy nonsense that is now the rage with sub woofers and stuff. Kind of like the difference between an SWR redhead 2x10 versus a cheap 15".
I love them, but am scaling back everything, so if it aint' plugged in or bolted down it is going away. Let me know if you are an audiophile looking for a nice vintage set of speakers. |

| I've never had any of the larger AR cabs, but the AR M4.5 Holographic towers that I inherited from my father are pretty awesome.

Location: East Wenatchee, WA | They have been wonderful companions through both good and bad times in my life, so I kind of hate to part with them, but it is time. After spending time in the box stores, however, they sure don't build them like this any more.
My biggest fear now is selling them and having to ship, since I don't know where to find a box, but I will find a solid box and package them right. I am thinking about three layers of thick card board, but will sort that out if they sell.

I would also trade them toward music related stuff too. I am interested in anything from "music stuff to gun stuff", so let me know what you may have if you have an interest. |
