Location: Tennessee | Sounds like the guy may have contacted the two admins over on the Tak Forum. Good place to go - not many of these come to market and I think it'll keep getting harder and harder to land one. I was playing mine over the weekend. The EF-75 never ceases to amaze. If the information becomes public, I'd be interested in knowing what the market price on these are. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | One of these days I gotta do a good side by side sit down review of the EF75, Martin OM-42 and Collings OM-2HSB. I call it my "triple-crown" of OM sized guitars. They each shine in their own way. Gee I could post the comparison on the AGF, but they wouldn't be interested in reading any comments by someone who's actually played all three, now would they.
To be honest, MusicMikes OM28 should be in the mix. I think it was a tad better than the 42, just not as pretty.

Dave, I compares the 75, and my Collings OM-42BA, and Collings OM-3 indian #814, my first Collings. It had the OM-3 for lunch and was real close on the OM-42. Depending on your point of view it could go either way. Didn't have a Martin to throw in the mix. |

There was a thread on the Tak Forum where Mike Markure gave the definitive answer on the numbers. There were a total of 90 produced (not including 4 prototypes), of which 41 made it to the US. Five or six of these "fell out", leaving about 35 in the US. They are rare birds indeed.
As far as a "nice" price, that depends on whether you're a buyer or a seller. :) But I figure it would cost me at least six grand to replace this guitar with something similar from another manufacturer. Maybe more. |

The problem is that people can't get past the fact that it says Takamine on it and it's made in Japan. "Gee, for that kind of money I could buy a collings or martin ..." Yes, and wouldn't all your friends be soooo impressed.
So bottom line, in todays market a nice used one would probably go around $2500 - $3500. or so which is is real shame (unless you're the buyer). That one that Al has with the small finish crack on the back is probably the deal of all deals if someone wants an EF75.
Just my (informed and very satisfied owner) opinion. You can all decide for yer-selfs.

So this comps favorably in the high company of Collings? This I may have to see. |

Isn't it coincidental that in the automotive world, you'd never hear "Gee, for the price of a Lexus, I could easily buy a really nice Buick, or a couple of used Oldsmobiles." Having studied Japanese organizational theory and quality management processes, and given their world-wide reputation for building quality automobiles (and many other products), I'm curious why so many Americans might believe that they would approach instrument building any differently in terms of materials, build quality, and attention to detail? The answer may be that we all have different definitions of quality and value. For some, a quality product just has to have U.S.A. imprinted on it. |

Location: Latitude 39.56819, Longitude -105.080066 | Dave comparison to similar Collings/Martins is pretty much on point. I don't find it to be that similar in sound to the Collings (closer to Martin) but the sound is outstanding (in its own way) none the less.
I would not even consider an offer for mine of less than 4 grand.....and that would be to even consider the offer.
The OM size is outstanding and extremely comfortable and is not fatiguing to play, even for several hours.
Didn't these retail for $5500 or so?
the only 3 still known to be possibly available is the one with Beal, Al, and now #11. |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder: true it does not have the bling but it has everything else (and personally I don't like all the bling; I had a D-42 several years ago: beautiful guitar and sounded great; just not for me). My OM-28V is without a doubt the finest small guitar I have ever played or listened to...and that's a bunch of guitars...
The detail and construction is second to none...and for Martin, that’s really good...every miter cut is perfect, Indian Rosewood is tight straight grained, and the top is a very fine piece of spruce. I absolutely love this guitar and it is the favorite (along with the 47RI) of my wife and kids for my family time guitar...
