| I'm tied up bidding on a 1667 right now..or else you'd have a little more competition... ;)
I bet the old cracked top sounds better anyway...maybe they could just brace it..and let it ride... |

| How do I know it's a 1537?...hmm, I thinking the two knobs on the waist were the deciding factor for me, but I might be wrong. The sellers really didn't know what it was or they might of had a reserve price. (Didn't the 1718 Elite have the 3-band OP24?) This will be a good win if the bids stay low. The cracks will discourage some bidders. |

I think you're right. I looked at some of the other Ovation auctions. Those with a decent opening price have no bids yet and the others are dirt cheap. |

I know the 1537 looks better with the different trim appointments, but as far as sound,...(now I may be committing an unpardonable sin here) I think you would have to have a finely tuned ear to appreciate the difference in tone between a 1537 and say the 1768 I just bought, or a 1718 for that matter. Of course it could just me me as I've lost much of my hearing over the years. |

Or it could be mojo........ |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | If I remember right, along with the countless previous discussions on this, there was a comment about the top having a partial laminated (ply)portion under the upper bout. There were further theories presented about that causing extended tonal qualities. The thing that stands out the most to me in previous posts was the factory notes on the planning and production of this guitar. It was stated that they were to use nothing but the highest quality wood for the tops, and for the most part they were built as a wood-top Adamas. Another thing that I find VERY cool is the wood binding. I don't really care for the white plastic binding guitar manufacturers use on a nice wood guitars now. But I know Dave was just trying to stir the pot with a question he already knows the answer to. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I'm Game ... I can truly say that I miss the one I once owned, and I'd like to have another some day. I'm sorta' hooked on cutaways though, so it would be a lot more tempting if it were a 1547. My long-time dream would be to have a cutaway version with outies and the Adamas I neck and bridge.(and maybe even the #47 style binding in walnut. I think I could possibly consider giving up all my other guitars to have that. The only negative thing I could think of the 1537 was that it seemed to be very heavy. |

and bvince, if a 1547 came up, i'd beg, borrow, steal, and or cheat to beat you to it.
I love my 1537, but I, like you, have more use for a cutaway. |

Do a search in the "For Sale" section. |

However, I'm not sure I could completely trust a guy who strings a guitar this way. Or one who does not proofread his own auction before posting it. (no 'satin' neck', no 'sunburst headstock', etc.) |

Someone told him that 1537's were valuable... But neglected to mention that the condition matters.
See, I'm stupid. I list my guitars for what they are worth, so some other noobie can afford it.
If it only cost 35 cents to list a BIN and if you have patience (and don't need the money) you can ask any stupid price you want...
And maybe some stupid person will pay for it. (Then convince themselves that it's an antique!) |

Location: Shotley Bridge, Northern England | Well, this went to one of our own. I was very tempted to bid, but, being out of the USA, needed permission that wasn't forthcoming. When the auction closed, and I saw the bidder's name, at least I had the satisfaction of knowing that it was going to a good home. And there is a sort of poetic justice here: I bought a 1758 last year in an auction where he was the next highest bidder, so this evens things out. Well done! I am sure this is JUST as good or even better! :)

1537 like object on Ebay
I figured it should at least be playable for a while. Then if it goes to Mother for a makeover it will still cost less than a new guitar.

Pictures are up! I received it today and promptly took it apart.
It is partly reassembled, cleaned and has a damp rag in the bowl now.

Location: Upper Left USA | There is a hole where the bass should be but no wonder.
A couple of days of Worshington Sunshine should humidify it some. Then its either Spruce or Carbon Fiber cleats for the gap.
If it goes to Mother it will likely be retopped. I'd consider a 1537 bracing only with inlaid epaulets. Then it would make the neck look old so why not ask for a "D" scale setup!
So I'll just play it for now. |

Location: closely held secret | Mike, I'm not sure I understand the logic of sending a guitar back to Mother for a new top and neck. Other than the preamp and tuners, you're going to get a new guitar back.
Why not keep this one and custom order what you want? |

Did someone also repair the peghead ear?
Is it me.. or does the top grain spacing seems wider than others? or is it just a more pronounced grain?
Is that double stick tape on the rear cover opening?
Satin peghead?
I wanted to bid on this one for a "beater" guitar that I wouldn't be afraid of the kids messing with. Nice grab..! Tal |

The inner ring of the Hatch is 3M'd back in place and the overall finish is Satin, which is better than "Sat in".
It'll git er done! |
