The kid's Legend just died in the middle of him playing with the band at church. It has the single volume preamp (it's an older 1617) no tone knob.

I can't do an effective test to find out where the issue is either as the pickup is hardwired into these old preamps.

I was hoping to find a stacked knob (with tone) preamp and swap it out.

Anyone have one laying around they wanna get rid of?

I'm pretty certain the pickups were never hardwired to the preamps. They always connected via a 2.5mm jack. I have a vol only FET3 I don't need.

You need to watch those absolute terms like "always" Paul. We are talking about Ovation here.

It's hardwired, I have the whole unit out of the guitar now. I'll open it up and take a picture if you want for informational purposes. I was surprised too. Thought all had plugs too.

The volume only would be fine too, that's what was in it.

Damon, is there a jack on the preamp? Possibly it was plugged originally and for some reason a PO hardwired it.

No jack. I'll take pictures.

And yep, sent a note to Kim. He responded. The have the reissues and they're a bit spendy.

Say, Miles, when the Mothership discovers that they no longer have a requested part in their inventory, do they call you for help? They should.

(FWIW My 1624 has the mini-plug jack. It's a 1978 model.)

For informational purposes, here's the preamp. The guitar is a foil label 1617, 1975 maybe?

Yep, and on my Country Artist. Just upgraded it and was not happy at having to cut the pickup wire to remove it.
