Location: 6 String Ranch | This is a great guitar and I love it.
But it's the 7th or so great dreadnaught I have and isn't and won't get played enough to justify it. The 39 D-18, Opry, BG, 45th, Merrill-45 and Collings-42BAV are in front of it.
It has all the case candy and is in new condition except it doesn't have the pickguard protector. The back and sides were hand rubbed and polished to bring them up from dead flat to about 75% shine by a professional luthier. The grain is stunning. No I don't have pictures but trust me on this one.
I'm thinking $2300 +shipping. |

I've had one strong expression of interest that should solidify in a week or two. In the mean time he said leave the door open for others. |

If that doesn't convince you to jump on it, nothing will! |

I'm not exactly a bottom feeder, but I don't hit the top water plugs like you guys do either. More of a middle murky feeder.
All I need is a sponsor. Stephen? :D |

I have concluded through my own buying and selling that there is a significant difference once you get in that 2-4K range that quickly starts to diminish again once above that point! |

How about a gold top duo-tone, the first version with the three round sound holes? Or a Flying A in red? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | It's a flying V, but that name was already taken. And it's acoustic. And you can only play standing up. And it's red.
I played it. Sort of a stupid idea for an acoustic guitar and it sounded kinda crappy. But it's certainly unique and collectable.

I have concluded through my own buying and selling that there is a significant difference once you get in that 2-4K range that quickly starts to diminish again once above that point! I know the cosmetic quality does get better in the upper stratosphere, but as far as sound (again to my aging ears) it would be very hard to beat the CEO. I drove to the other coast of Fl to buy a Collings OM, with full expectations of spending 3k for it and took the Martin with me just to compare. I played the Collings, then a Bourgeois OM, then a Weber roundbody all in the same price range, and ended up taking home a Martin 000 17S instead. The guy selling all those was keeping one guitar on the wall.... a Martin OM that he said he would never part with. Maybe I'm just attuned to the Martin sound, but for a wood box, the two I have do it for me. I've had a couple Martins that didn't sound good to me at all, but the ones I have now are VERY special. I would love to have the Tak, but it's a little outside my range right now. |

And I couldn't agree more (although we all know that being butt ugly doesn't mean it's not collectible and that's probably why Beal has one). |

Those 12 fret dreads have a tone all to themselves. It's not exactly dread-like, in the traditional sense. Not as much upper end. It's more like an OM guitar with a stick of dynamite up its arse.
Back to the Tak40th. I'm sure it's a stunning guitar right in the league of the 45th, Opry and the Bluegrasser. You absolutely freaking could not go wrong with this one.

Really, it is.
Yeah, this and the gold top could go, that's why I mentioned it. |

I keep saying NO MORE WOOD BOXES.
However, note that I haven't been selling the round backs...spent some time last night with the 1718-X prototype and the pre-production 1537 - both from Bill a couple of years ago.
Figured binging on guitars is better than chocolate. The other excuse is that I celebrate two birthdays a year...my birthday in August and the Marine Corps Birthday (Nov 10th, 233 years of service).
By the way, my annual pitch for Toys for Tots!! |

Best wood box I could compare it with is the Martin HD28-VS. Wow!! Bill has never steered me wrong. Amazing. :D :D  |
