Ebay

Not mine but the shark will be out. My 97C is languishing @ the MS, it's top is dipped and Kim reckons it needs to be replaced. The whole deal with my 97C has been a bit of a bitter pill to swallow so would rather get rid of my 97C and get a mint one.

So if anyone wants to make an offer of mine fire away. I know Patch has shown an interest in the past so he gets first dips.

Now let's relesase the shark...

OP30 electronics. Interesting twist. No mention of modification in listing.

And an extra jack hole. Wonder why they didn't use the strap button jack?

Also not mentioned.

The thing it I like the OP30 (it's in the 03C).

However seller wants $800 for this which seems a bit high considering the mods.

Ain't that the one that is supposed to have the 'touch-sensitive' pre-amp on the side of the bowl?

[and if it did, what did he do with it?]

If it has been modified it is far from 'mint'.

There was a similar 97C on eBay several years ago modified like this one. It was a wide neck and had a high starting bid so I didn't bite on it.

I've never been a fan of the touch sensitive controls. I asked the seller if it is the wide neck model.

Hmmmmmmm. I'm pretty sure that one used to be mine.
I did get it from an ebay auction (after it had closed for about 1/2 the asking price).

Couldn't be many with the upgraded electronics and that COA serial seems pretty familiar.

If it is my former guitar (and I am about 90% certain it is), it was a wide neck.

Interesting, did you organise the upgraded electronics? If so why and was it a good move?

Came that way to me. The volume touch, while pretty cool is flaky and strictly a volume control.

From a usability standpoint, the upgraded electronics were much better and since at one time I owned 3 of these, I was able to compare them side by side and it did not show any significant difference in tonal quality with the upgraded electronics vs the volume strip.

The wide neck is the only way to go with this guitar!

I have a degree in Marine Science, so I can speak with some authority when I say that taking a "dip" with a shark as aggressive as Carchardon carcharias dweeziliae can be hazardous to your health (wallet, whatever)! :p ;)

I own a 97C. The original electronics stopped working. I gave Kim a call about it and he gave me no hope of a fix. I wound up removing the circuit pad, installing a strap lock button where the switchjack was, and I installed an OpPro with 1/4" and XLR.

I remember the auctions for this one (Dec '04 - Jan '05).

It was #0424. Here is one of the original photos.

That's a nice setup with OP30. My touch controls crapped out (shut up cliff) and I had FD14 electronics installed. Wonderful tone. I do reget selling it.

Dave, I am sending in my '97c. The touch controls work fine, but as long as it is there, would you consider an FD14-electronics installation a proactive upgrade?

The touch controls WILL fail. Just a question of when. At the very least you should buy the FD14 electronics now while they are still available and save them for when the day comes.

If it was me I'd go ahead and get it installed now. Nothing to lose. You might as well go ahead and get the neck glossed while you're at it.

The 97C touch thing was a nice idea that failed dismally. Regardless of potential future component failure it was just not a good design. No EQ, no visual indication of volume level, noise when volume changed. Have them put in something that is not a marketing concept. Any other Ovation preamp will be just fine. And have them get rid of the Thinline PU while they're at it.

Thing is, as an Ovation acoustic guitar the 97C is the most innovative, unique and best Collectors Edition ever. Shame about the electronics.

Ditto. I've posted this before many times. 97C is what the collectors series should have been all about. I think this was the last collectors design that Bill had his fingers in and I'd say he went out with a bang (and probably didn't give a damn if the electronics failed in 2 years) - at least the guitar would be memorable. In hind site I should have kept mine and turned it into a lap steel.

Wide nut 97C on it's way!

I have a non wide nut one (currently at MS) that's up for grabs. I'm told the top is a bit sunken. Offers?

Nice grab Dweez! I hear the wide neck ones are very nice. I've had two of the narrow neck ones, and don't know why I ever sold them. You might want to hold on to the narrow one too.

Assuming it is in the same shape and condition as when I owned it you will be very happy with this one.

Didn't you want an 87C as well? Congrats on the 97C "manly neck."

Nice grab.

Trader Jim, I know where there is a narrow neck hanging on the wall at Music Outlet.

Let's go wheel and deal.

Congrats Dweez!

I was just playing mine Friday. It's a totally unique instrument. I found a set of silk and steel strings I'd forgotten I had, and I'm wondering how they would sound on the 97.

I'm pretty happy I got a wide neck with updated electronics plus original case and case candy.

Now just gotta shift the other 97.

Patch,

Silk & Steels sound great on the 97C. I'm going to try some of those Nashville gauge strings on mine.
