Location: Greencastle, IN | I found a local guy who has a Viper for sale. His asking price is $200.00 with no case. I have never played one nor do I know anything about them. It appears to be a clean guitar. What are they going for? I thought about making him a low offer but don't have the surplus funds to get stuck with an axe I can't use. What is a steal on one of these? What do they compare to? I'll look forward to hearing from the EXPERTS! |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | That's a good price...it would be better if it had a case (if you get it I have a case for sale cheap...)
These are going for anywhere from what you can get it for to $450/$500...
Sunburst is usually cheaper than Maple/natural... |

Location: Upper Left USA | What MM says is true. You can also look at it from the Hulk Hauler aspect:
Neck $75
Body $75
Pups $100 each
Neck Plate $50
Tuners Set $50
PG $35
Knobs $20
So $200 is great unless it has suffered a lot of modifications (my own not included).
If you can get it for $200, detach the neck and ship it o me for under $30 I could send you back a highly personalized pile of renovated Viper!
Or at least buy it from you...
Most bodies end up beat and the pickups get swapped out for HB's but they still have some stock value.
$200 is a bargain*.

If it plays and sounds like a stock Viper, you WILL enjoy playing it.
If it's clean, with no case, $300 is a good deal. $200 qualifies as a steal. |

Location: CA | There are three generations of Vipers that Ovation made — early 'pure' electrics, the CA68/EA68 hybrids and the current VXT models. It would help to know which one (by model or photo) you're talking about. |

Location: Greencastle, IN | I went to check it out today. The serial number on the square metal plate say E 6226 which I think dates it as a 73-75. It appears everything is original. The body has a couple nicks in the paint ans there are some check marks in the finish. The neck has a very very slight bow about halfway down the neck. It was missing a string and he had no amp. I wanted to plug it in and play it. I guess I should have taken an amp. Overall it's a pretty cool axe. There are 4 pics in the gallery. I haven't figured out how to get them from my gallery to this post. |

Location: Greencastle, IN | Haven't bought it yet. I don't know why I am so hesitant. If I don't keep it I am sure one of you guys will take it off my hands for what I have in it. It is laying around in this guys house. I usually jump on deals like this. I guess the economy has my head screwed up! |

Location: Utah | A bunch of vipers have gone unsold on the bay recently, under $400. Looks like a lot of folks have gotten skittish about buying guitars.
I'm just biding my time, but really should have bought that viper tonight for $350. |

Woody has one of mine that I'm thinking of selling.
"You can never have too many Vipers" but you can run out of room. :D
With the $Oz at 61c the shipping cost is prohibitive.
And I have 6 here already.

Location: Upper Left USA | I had a Black VXT with a dent in a bad place just kind of plop in my lap.
Plan A was to refinish the top. I took the top down and found some lovely wavy grained Spruce but in the spot where the dent was the black went really deep.
Plan B was to used the nice wide piece of Koa veneer I got on Ebay and goober it on. There was a big bubble then some burn through and that's why the RicK swish thing is located where it is.
Bad Architecs hire good Landscapers and Hack Luthiers just do more inlays.
Right now the finish is drying and I hope to play it Sunday.
