Two years ago I sent the guitar back to the factory and had the neck and headstock custom gloss finished. It was an expensive upgrade but well worth it. Below is a before and after photo.
Guitar is in 100% mint condition with no visible signs of wear. This is an absolute museum piece and a real slice of Ovation history. Comes with original hardshell case which is also in excellent condition.

BTW I was the original owner of that guitar back in '96. Actually the oldest continuously owned Ovation I've got. |

There was a time in the 90's when Ovation didn't seem to do anything to the neck and headstock and I never cared for the way the guitars looked. To my eye, the difference between a glossed and unglossed neck and headstock is night and day.
For a while, in the late 80's, Ovation went with a satin finish on the necks. My 87C has that. It's fine, but any less finish just isn't right to me. But I know people who can't stand a glossed neck. I love them..... |

how can it be so mint if it has a trss rod cover onit that dosen't belong and three extra holes and a gloss neck.
that's not mint to me it is not within factory specs.
ok I said it |

I saw a mint condition '54 Chevy. It was painted with flames on the side. Absolutely stunning job. Hardly original.
If you disagree then use the word "Pristine". |

Knowing Witko, I wouldn't be suprised if it was held on w/double-stick with severed screwheads glued onto the TRC . . . |

It was only later that I found Standingovation was selling "Faux TRC" kits on ebay. The kit (actually just a freaking PDF file for $5.99) is just as Cliff states. Cut the threads off the screw heads and glue the screwheads to the holes in the TRC and then double face tape the TRC to the guitar.

I've always considered the clean (no TRC) a signature element of earlier Ovations. The gloss, on this guitar especially, is a nice touch.
The TRC is kinda like putting a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. JMHO I hope it's just stuck on, then it would be clever... Like if those magnetic bandaides or bullet holes were put on a Ferrari. |

I do like the Playboy mudflaps idea. Frankly I'm getting a little tired of the Yosemite Sam flaps currently on the Rover ...

I guarantee water up to the doorsills, mud, and incredible terrain. It's absolutely unbelievable what these vehicles can do once they leave the pavement. Now back to your regularly scheduled program. |

My original comment about the size of one's male anatomy vs. the likihood the he might be driving a porsche would have gotten me a vacation. Or at least pissed off a few friends. Mark, Bobbo I didn't really mean it. But you know, it's just sort of an urban myth ... |

Yes guitars have definitely gotten flat and boxy. But hardly uncool.
Actually I remember discussing cayennes vs. rovers over brats at lunch, right? They're nice but I just don't have the interest to choose out of 600 different options and configurations. Just give me one model this is it, comes with everything standard nothing to decide, done deal. But I'm probably in the minority. |

Has anyone bought this guitar yet? Sheesh, it's a book guitar! Pre-Fender. With the sexy and cool outies. Optima preamp, too. The gloss neck just makes it better. The Ultimate Ovation? Could be. |

About car repairs, yup the costs add up. That's why I only do leases. Three years full maintanence and then I'm out of it into a new one. Steady monthly cash flow, no highs and lows and in the last 15 years I've spent $0. out of pocket on service. Currently on my 9th consecutive lease, always two in parallel.
I think for people looking for pre-owned sometimes cars coming back off lease can be a great deal. The previous owner can't run up big miles and has to keep it in good shape. Literally last week turned in my wifes car after 3 years and it's only got 13k miles on it. Not a mark of use or wear anyplace. Don't think it ever strayed more than 25 miles from our house. Who ever picks that one up is getting an absolute creampuff. I thought about buying it at the end of the lease but owning a piece of depreciating iron isn't something that appeals to me. Hey Moody, I was half way to your house picking up her new one (Palm Springs). We should have met up and lent you a real guitar.

"That'll be extra!"

I'm excited to be able to get this guitar...the GC TRC doesn't bother me at all...he did put Ovation "on the map" so to speak for the first 30 years...seems fitting I think...and the gloss neck and headstock are so nice! I have the Book so this will make a nice set.
Brad, the mando was still available at last notice (but may have been spoken for ...ask Dave). I couldn't swing both now. I'd love to find a Book 12 however...someday...
Have a great weekend all... |
