Location: Phoenix AZ | Not mine, but HERE is a nice one on ebay. This is basically a reissue of the Clarence White that I have, mahog instead of brazilian. These guitars are the CATS ASS. Nice wide neck and it's even got an LR Baggs I-Beam in it. WOW. In real dollars it's not cheap, but in relative dollars to a new one (or the original Clarence model) it's a friggin bargin. And of course it's sunburst.
In that thread about one guitar for the rest of your life blah blah, THIS would be a serious contender.

I personally don't think these reissued versions of Dave's guitar stand up very well to the original.
Dave's is phenomenal while the Winfield version I played at a local store was nice but no comparison.
I am a Collings fanatic and I don't believe I would pay 4 grand for this one (I would save up a couple thousand or 3 more and grab one like Dave has) but YMMV. |

If it's a '42 in nice condition, no the CW probably isn't any better. If it's a recent vintage D18 then it doesn't even belong in the same sentence as the CW. This CW in sunburst sells for $5600. new.

There's the original 1935 Clarance White D28, owned for the last 30 years by Tony Rice. Santa Cruz, Martin, and Collings have made copies of it. Now you're saying that the guitar on ebay is a reissue of a copy????? WTF???? |

Santa Cruz makes guitars for Tony Rice based on the original D28 but with improvements. Who has the actual authorization from the White family to use the name Clarance White? |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Collings had to stop using the Clarance White name. That guitars was the model CW.
They not-by-coincidence named the new model the Collings Winfried, and also gave it the model number CW.
There is a nice WEBSITE all about the Collings Clarence White guitars.
