A few of us would take a little exception to that statement, but none the less these are outstanding instruments. Hope someone here grabs it fast.

...Dave, for those of us that are not experts, what is the finest sounding Ovation/Adamas? I sort of assumed it was #47 (although I know there is some tough competition).

The #47 Reissue is close, but to my ears side by side my original #42 has a little more "juice". Cliff's #54 I think is even better than mine. And Bill's got one maybe #36 that just sounds stellar.
The #47 Reissue is as close as you could come without a 30 year wayback machine. In time these will be worth some serious money. Maybe more than the originals, because they're built so much better. And who knows, maybe the "juice" I speak of is just a matter of 30 years age difference. 2036 could be a VERY good year.

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | While at Amelia in March, we were treated to Original Slothead #35 and it's amazing story as Beal shared it...seems this was actually Charlies favorite (not 47) but since the factory had 47 there and 35 was "in hiding" until found, 47 was used for the reissue...
This is a fantastic sounding guitar and Matt certainly brought out the best in it...it has sone very cool appointments and is a treasure...thanks Beal for sharing this with us...

As I said I didn't add any details, (I was right next to Beal when he was relating the story)...BUT, in any event, it is a wonderful guitar (as is #47) and having a RI of either guitar is special (Yea Cliff, I know, I know...lol)...we can't all own an original pre-production... ;) |

The professor bought my Hurricane = the prettiest guitar ever made that's darn near impossible to play (if you have fingers that aren't needles). |

Sounds like you had the 1-11/16. Same width as a 6-string, just with twice as many strings. Yes, a little cramped to play. They later changed to a 1-7/8 neck which is a little more traditional for a 12-string. |

I can't believe no one has jumped on this one. Another couple years there is gonna be a lot of crying by those who had the chance and didn't jump on it. |
