I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually seen one of these for sale before. But LORD! What a beautiful instrument! It’s an 1158 Ovation Custom Legend and is in better condition than any 28 Year-old guitar has any right to be. These things are TOUGH to find!

Imagine an 1115 Pacemaker tricked out as a Custom Legend and you are getting near a good description. It’s an acoustic-only, non-cutaway, 12-fret-to-the-body, 12-string hand-held PIANO! I kid you not---this things sounds like an orchestra!

The finish has started to “amber” up just enough to give the guitar that vintage burst look. This is elegantly set off by the carved bridge and carved truss rod cover. It has abalone all around the top and the fret board is bound in ivory with more abalone inlaid everywhere. And did I mention abalone? The sound hole is completely trimmed out in it as well. I’m tellin’ ya, this thing is gorgeous in pictures, but it is stunning in person. Here are the rest of Ovation’s specs: It’s a deep bowl (brown) with a solid spruce top. The scale is 25 ¼”. The bridge and truss rod cover are carved walnut. The nutwidth is a comfy 1 7/8”. It has the fan bracing pattern, and the tuning machines are gold plated with pearloid buttons.

The finish has two very minute flaws that I didn’t even see until I finished cleaning and polishing the top. If you are five feet away, they’re invisible. The neck looks to be in good shape with remarkably little fret-wear. I took two shims out to lower the action and it plays just fine. (I’ll put the shims in the case in the event you prefer your action a little higher than I do. I have a very light pick attack.) There's a small sticker on the back of the headstock that says Margeurite's Guitars. It comes with its original brown case, which shows some scuffing here and there, but is otherwise sound and closes tightly. I put a new set of D’Addario lights on it yesterday, so it’s ready to play.

The serial number dates it to 1981. I’ve not seen many guitars this old in this good a shape. And I’ve rarely seen a Custom Legend slothead. I can only say again, this is a beautiful looking and sounding guitar! I’m asking $875 shipped in the continental US. Overseas? Send me a message for a shipping quote.

As always, tell me what you think and ask any questions.

Patch,

I can't believe you're selling this BOOMER. I have a 1659-1 that will be in my will. Your comparison to a Pacemaker with bling is dead on!

Good luck in your sale!

The darksunburst 1158 was my 1st 'O'. Now have two 1658's and a 1659 (as well as other to include the 6759).

The 1158 is a wonderful guitar, best of the best.

Not taking anything away from the small soundhole shiny bowl, the Pacemaker, or Glen Campbell (all excellent) but the CL is the best.

When I played with three or four 'other' six strings, I had to play softly not to over power them. Of course, sometimes I couldn't resist.

OK, so I didn't step away far or fast enough!
I couldn't resist: it had me at first "bling"...
Thanks Iffy for the heads up and Patch for the chance to have a CL again after nearly 10 years...
I'm looking forward to this guitar!
