(For those wondering: We heard at the Schaller factory tour what KMC pays for a set of M6's. It would have been only some cents more)
In a Collector's guitar positioned to be in the higher level - soundwise and according to the price - it's a shame to put those "aftermarket" tuners on. No matter, if they do the job.
Best regards,

The abalone/tortoise shell combo is SO GORGEOUS. As soon as I saw it, I had to have one. Here's a closer view of the combo on my '09C. I wanted to embed the photo but at this writing my brain's too distracted to remember how to shrink the pic, and it's huge, so here's the link:

Good luck with your sale on those beauties, Al.

I'll have to wait. 'Course, it ain't the first time patience has paid off. ;) |

I have no real idea what it sounds like, acoustically. The only time I've ever seen one was at the NAMM show in January and you never know what anything sounds like there. I'm guessing that if you've got the extra bucks, these would be good ones to pick up.... |

I fully admit that I'm the odd man out here. Everybody else seems to love them. They just don't get me fired up.
I'm not a huge Adamas fan either (altho' I love my 12 string and the OFC guitar). I tend to pick up my wood topped O's first.
Just personal preference. I'm not pitting my knowledge, technical expertise, or experience against anybody else. It's not a contest or a right or wrong situation. I'd never fault anybody for feeling differently.
I don't like rocky rhode ice cream either.... |

Location: Boise, Idaho | We're closer than you'd probably care to admit, Paul. The guitars I've been playing most recently are the K1111, 1713, Folklore, Patriot and 04 CL. All the traditional Ovation sound. I think the only other one I touched this week is the #47. I'm not a big fan of the Koa sound, but the sound is different and the wood sure is pretty. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | The 30th CL and Patriot hang next to each other and I was comparing the sound last night. Both sound to me like Ovations should sound, boomy with some resonance and clear highs. The CL sounds a bit tighter, which should be expected, since the Patriot has seen a bunch of use.
The K1111(RI) also has the Ovation sound that I like, maybe with a bit more crispness than the CL. It's had fewer hours than the CL. I notice quite a difference between it and the Patriot, but I haven't really compared it back to back with the CL.
The Patriot has really low action with 2 shims and a pretty high break angle, which makes it really easy to play and still get a lot of sound out of it. I can't get the CL lower without tapering the bridge and the K1111 needs to have a shim out to see if I can get it to play a bit faster. I don't think I'll lose much volume if I do that, since it has plenty. |

Location: SoCal | I would expect the CL and Patriot to sound similar. Both are A braced Legends. But the K1111 is an X braced deep bowl. How are the bass notes on it against the CL? Same ring in the treble?
Witko has a K1111 and I've got a rebuilt Legend. Both are acoustic only, deep fiberglass bowl guitars with the only real difference being the bracing. We're going to get them together and decide what the differences are. I played his K1111 last December when I was in Phoenix and it was a great guitar..... |

OOPS, just realized how far we hijacked this thread. The 09 Collector is one of the few guitars that looks better than the 04 CL. |
