| No more so than any other guitar that age. I had a 1981 vintage for a time, it was a wonderful guitar. Minor wear, but the action and playability was superb. |

Location: Scotland | Main thing to check on any guitar of that age is the neck angle. If the action is higher than you'd like (or even if it's just right) but there's no more downward adjustment left at the bridge (saddle as low as it will go, all shims out, shallow string break-angle over the saddle) If that's the case then it needs a neck re-set, and unless it's a real bargain I'd leave it. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | The bracing in the top is probably VT. Some folks here don't like the acoustic sound of that style bracing. I've never heard one so I can't say, but I do know that the A bracing pattern is superior. 1617's made after '81 have A bracing. Look for a 1717 model which has A bracing and a much better pre-amp (Op-24). |

Both are great guitars.
Temp is right though. Check out the neck angle. |

Location: Cork, Ireland | Decided to let it go - got nervous about buying sight unseen , plus my plan for getting it collected fell through
It was on that auction site that people use and went for UKĀ£200 in the end

Location: Scotland | You should have posted the item number earlier. There's a good clear pic of the bridge. If the action is as stated then the neck angle is fine. Someone got themselves a bargain. |

| Slydog has a vintage 1617 that had a top/bowl replacement that's for sale, and is stunning, and is a -4 natural, bookmatched top, and A braced with tone/vol on the shoulder...

| Thanks Beal, anyway if anyone's interested in this one he has, it had a top/bowl replacement and complete fret job done on it up at the mothership less than a year ago I think, is a truss rod neck, and like I said is very stunning and a GREAT sounding Legend... and very light with the new bowl.
They did good on this one... they always do.
Al will be on later tonight if anyone's interested in it..
Thanks,
Glenn |
