Welcome, Michael. These are some resources for determining a market value for your guitar that are described in the FAQ (it's the 4th question and answer). Markets are very fickle, and it's impossible to put a precise "value" on a specific guitar, even if we had high quality photos to see its condition ;) .

In my humble opinion I think in mint condition a 1984 is worth about $500-700 is todays market.

Gotta agree with Dweez, markets flat right now.The bay had a couple even cheaper than that.

Hang on for your number, Michael. There's some real knowledgable folk around here who like the 1984 best of all the collectors models, maybe even all the wood top Ovations ever made. And if it's in real good shape, it should be worth what you're asking for and probably even more, even if the bottom feeders are not ponying up right now. Just my two cents.

Widely regarded as probably the best wood topped super shallow bowl Ovation made.

I had one and sold it.

I thought the Elite 5868 Angel Stepped Walnut was a better SSB.

I had one of those too and sold it.

Close to two years ago I bought the 1984 Collector's from an OFC member who kept this guitar in great shape. There was a slight wear and tear on the plastic bowl but to be expected after 20+ years. I paid $700 including S+H. Never got to enjoy this guitar because an old friend borrowed it from me and never gave it back. This friend is a professional guitarist so the 1984 must be very good, but I have to say that the ring master knows GUITAR!

Why? Big Bill (Beal) basically said it was his favorite Collectors, so bought sight unseen. Not disappointed. Unlike a few others, still have it. Unique.

You have one for sale...at this point in the market, only you and the buyer can determine the value. So, set your price...either the right time to sell or not.

IMHO I think the only SSB worth considering is Adrians ebony fretboard Adamas.

There I've said it!

Having actually played one for a living for nearly 10 years (1986 Ovation 1868-5, and an Adamas 1885-5 12 string) I can honestly say that the SSB's are wonderful guitars in nearly every respect...and in the blind guitar sound test from last year, two SSB's did extreamly well in the voting...they are comfortable to play, stay in tune; sound great from a sound system (as do most Ovation/Adamas guitars in general), and are well received from the audience and customers who constantly ask questions about them (as they do Ovation/Adamas in general) and yet get a bad rap becuase they "don't have the volume acoustically" as do their deeper bowl siblings (no kidding...but the tone recorded acoustically is very good...
Whatever floats your boat, but these are great guitars in my opinion and I am proud to own and play them....ymmv

You said Bottom Feeder like it was a bad thing?

Have pictures of this specific guitar been posted yet.

Pictures will bring out the real GAS and potential offers from the more financially frivilous and able...

:D

BTW - Has anyone said "welcome" yet?
