I have a late 80's applause AE-38 with a severely bellied top.

It was my fault - I cooked the guitar in a hot car one july day many years ago.

I'm thinking of making a repair myself, but I don't know how Ovation joins the top to the bowl.

Is there anyone here with experience removing an Applause top? I'm pretty sure I'll need to re-brace the guitar as part of the repair and re-bind it once in place.

I have a step by step article on how it's done (with some pics)

If you're interested, email me through this board and I will send you an electronic copy.

Welcome aboard.

Crazy Glue!
Epoxy really. But I don't know if you can get it off in one piece. I gave a busted Balladeer to a friend of mine (I bought it for the case) and he sez that he got the top off with a head gun. I have not seen the aftermath...
He said that he wanted to get the top off in one piece so he could use it as a pattern to cut another. But it was already cracked, so he was not planning on re-using the wood.
When you send a US Ovation back to the Factory, they do not take the tops off... The replace the whole bowl and everything.

Maybe someone from the BFLG will jump in... Hey Woody! Seesquare! Somebody!
Jeff will work! :D

Oh! Welcome Scott!
