But I guess the Red one was the Backup... In D.
Don't know if it is worth $5K tho..
Glad this guy is so sentimental about this guitar, huh? |

Something fishy here.
According to the Ovation decoder:
1689 Adamas I 1984-1993 USA Steel 6 NO DEEP Elite Both A/E wide neck, Only Slothead on Pre-Production Versions
When did they start putting the serial number on the back of the peghead?
Looks like a late label
And the winner is!!
Serial number 17275 was made 2000

"Hi, There are some things about your guitar you should know
1. 1689-2 Adamas1 were made 1984 to 1993
2. Adamas serial number 17275 was made in 2000
The early ones never had the serial number on the back of the headstock and it has much later model electronics and label"
Fleecebay it is!!
I'll bet what they recovered was the original case.
Coincidentally in 2000
AJ  |

Location: Keepin' It Weird in Portland, OR | Awww... This guy sez Bob gave it to him, then he sez Alto Reed gave it to him.
Cuz I was bored, I actually read the whole description...
It has a cracked top and loose braces. (You cracked an Adamas top?)
So it ain't really in tip-top playing condition.
You would have to send it to Mother, and Mom might wanna just change the top.
Since Bob ain't gonna deliver it to my door...
And Bob was gonna throw it away, so he gave it to Alto...
Who didn't wanna keep it, so he gave it to this dude...
And it ain't signed by Bob...
I'd give ya' too-fiddy! |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Definitely Not a 1978-79 guitar...along with the neck (a recent NON-GLOSSED neck), the white label, the electronics’, it has the darker center on the top (the older ones were not so black) as well as the access cover on the back of the bowl is centered and no writing on the back at all (the originals had the access cover on the bottom right lower corner of the back with the Ovation lettering in gold). I agree AJ, I'll bet they recovered a different guitar entirely or somebody was jiving the seller who didn’t have a clue!
AND...Segar played -7's when I saw him in '78 and '80...
This was an $1800 guitar BEFORE the damage and a $100 case...
B.S. Adamas is right but it doesn't stand for Bob Segar... |

Location: nashville | For the sake of argument lets say I happened just the its written, Your the BIGGEST Bob Seger fan in the world and you are going to sell this guitar. Not unless old Bob has given you at least 2 guitar and what are the odds of that.
If I was Bob and found out this guy was trying to sell the guitar (no matter how broken) I gave him, I would go get it and give it to a real fan, not some guy wanting to make a buck.
By the way I am the wrolds bigget John Hiatt fan. According to John I have the only string (Low E) that he has ever broken on stage. He told me and ther other 400 people in the audience that when it happened. After the show I went to the front of the stage and picked it up.
I am going to put it on EBAy for $1000.00 but for anybody here I will let it go for $800.00. |

We're still looking into the low E string though!
Is snopes hiring?
Maybe I'll offer him a trade for a "Lionel" Edition Breadwinner kit? |

Location: Tennessee | I know I'm the enternal optimist, and often a sucker, but it very well could be that this story is true ... but the part that isn't apparent is that this particular guitar was picked up by the BSSBB in 2000 for use on tour. Maybe even put it into one of the road cases they had around. It never says this was THE guitar played in 1978, it just says it was played on tour. It was easy for me to make assupmtions the first time through the way it was written. Going through it again, I think there could be some credibility to the story and its provinance. That IS Alto Reed after all, and the case is pretty damn cool too. I'll bet this guitar was one of many (it is a "spare" "D" after all) and that's why it was given up, especially if it needs attention. |

The seller is genuine he only went by what he was told by AR.
I have had several conversations with him and told him to contact KK at the factory which he did.
"I finally got in touch with Kim Keller at Ovation today.
He looked at the photos of the guitar and was quite stumped at because he said the preamp dates to 1994 yet the tuners were early after Germany reunited. His guess was maybe the guitar was reworked at the factory"
Interesting tale
