I think that I am in the market for an Elite TX, not 100% sure if I want a contour or mid or if it even matters. I do think I'd prefer the "X" version because of the Op-Pro but also like the ebony on the "T" so I will consider whatever's available.

So, the feelers are officially out so please contact me if you have something you want to part with. No guarantees but willing to talk.

After doing a little more research it seems as though I am NOT wanting the (imported) TX version after all. So let's refine that to a USA model Elite-T and go from there.

Nervous... If you find a later model T, they have OP-Pros in them.

Four... Depending on how you count.
Got two 1778T's... one with an OP-30, one with an OP-Pro.
The Sweet T which is a 2078T contour bowl, and the 12-string 2058T, both with OP-Pros.

I can verify what OMA said. My 2007 1868T came with the OP-Pro.

Joe,
How much are you asking for the T?
(Though I prefer black, I might be interested.)
Thank you.

I'm after an Elite T also. Was gunning for the flame one but it sounds like the textured tops ones are better.

Anyone with a surpless Sweet T, let me know ;)

When I started shopping 2-3 weeks ago there were a couple sellers on this OFC list and few decent ones on e-bay. Prices were in the $400.00 to $600.00 range. E-Bay had both US and imports listed.

Just in case anyone else is still looking here's a relative new one for around $535...

Don't know the seller, but he has good feedback and a long-time evilBay addict.
Also, he sez it is an OP-30, but you can see that it is an OP-Pro...
Just a PSA!

 OOPS! In the time it took me to type that someone bid and wiped-out the BIN. So it is just an all-out auction.

Highway61, I got it for $410 on eBay and I just want to break even on it, so... $410! :-)

The item number is 260464416148.
Do a search for it on eBay and let me know if you can see the pics so that I don't have to take new pics.

Joe,
I can see the pictures. (Man, that guy needs to clean his floors.) :-)

I'm interested in the guitar.

I'm going to be way all day, but I'll check my email (and the this board) when I get home this evening.
If it's fair to ask: I know you love these guitars; is there any reason you haven't bonded with this particular T.

Thank you sincerely,
Richard

Absolutely fair question! I haven't bonded with it because there are two flavors of necks that the Elite T's came in: the k-bar neck and a slightly skinnier neck (I don't know what it's called) but it's the one I have played for the last 3 years.

It also has the OP-30 (which I actually find visually more appealing with its friendly green "in tune" indicator), but my bigger concern is the neck. Other Elite T owners can't tell the difference, but my little hands can.

Clarification (I hate that I can't edit my posts!): the k-bar neck is NOT the one I have played with for the last 3 years, which is why I haven't bonded with this particular T.

"Other Elite T owners can't tell the difference"... Yes we can!
Which is why I didn't buy a K-bar neck. :p

OH! Hey Sharky... Wanna bet whether This ends-up selling for more than the original BIN of $535?

Sorry, I should have said SOME can't tell the difference. Didn't mean to generalize!

(Arthur, is there a name for the other neck? The one that's not k-bar?)

Richard, that guitar currently on eBay (not the one I am offering) is black, not pewter (even though the guy put pewter in the description). I'm not trying to ruin my own sale, just thought you should know since you mentioned you prefer black.

Arthur, if the current auction was pewter with the non-k neck, I would have bet that it DID end up selling for more than the original BIN (and you know why ;-)

Joe,
Thank you very much. I believe that, even if I had no color preference, I would, as you do, prefer the skinnier neck.
It took me years to makes sense of all the Tele and Strat varieties, and I guess that I have to educate myself about the Ts in the same way. Right now, though, I'm a bit overwhelmed by how one can tell, without trying the guitar at a Guitar Center, which model one is looking at.

Richard, you're very welcome. Since you are an electric player, then yes, you might very well prefer the skinnier neck. I know it's overwhelming without being able to just try the different ones at Guitar Center so here's an idea:

Go to a Guitar Center or Sam Ash or wherever and see if you can get your hands on the new Korean Elite 1778TX. It's not American, but it does have the skinnier neck. Then play pretty much any other midbowl Ovation. Feel the difference? If so, consider bidding on the black one on eBay (and make sure you agree on the refund policy).

If, on the other hand, you don't feel the difference (like I said, some will and some won't), then reconsider the one I'm selling, save yourself some money, and know that I'll take it back if you don't like it, from one O fan to another :-)

I'll keep it available here for a while before putting it back on eBay.

I went to Guitar Center and tried the TX. If that is the skinnier neck, it is the skinnier neck that I should stick with.
The first 1778T I ever owned was a fabulous guitar, but--and I had forgotten about this--the neck had started to really bother me. It was too wide, and its V shape was too pronounced.
I have to say that I played a bunch of guitars at GC whileI was waiting for someone to be able to take the 1778TX down from the top row, and as soon as began playing the 1778, I said (aloud), "Ahhh, that's it."
I'll have to do some research to see why I should not buy a TX and wait for the right T to become available.
Joe, again I thank you.

I see two differences: different bracing, stained rosewood instead of ebony fingerboard.

I was concerned that the Low E was off in regard to intonation as it neared the octave. I would hope that a lowering of action would remedy that situation.
Do they use shims under the saddle on the TX?
Can one sand the saddle if one needs to?

Don't mention it! I'm glad to help a fellow O fan, especially a fellow Elite T appreciator!

I would definitely not dissuade you from getting the TX. It's the next best thing to a T, and STILL better than any other guitar out there (in my opinion) thanks to its skinnier neck and its tone.

Yes on your shim question. Shouldn't need to sand the saddle.

If you're antsy to own and play, get the TX. If you can wait a few days, bid on the T (the one on eBay looks to be in as good condition as you're gonna find).

Let me know what you end up buying! I doubt you'll regret either decision now that you've experienced the "aah" factor!

Now that we have all talked bad about the smooth-topped T's, here is an Orange Flame for $670!

And it comes with a case.
Now we have said that the textured top sounds better, and it does.
But that is not to say that the Flame T's sound Bad!
And they do look cool (to some people). And this is alot less than I sold mine for.
And it is alot less than that one that keeps getting relisted for $1500. (Might be $1200 this week)

I just thought that I would share this with y'all since I cannot afford it.

Very uncool postscript to my Elite saga:

I spoke with one Ovation rep in Miami in person who confirmed there are no plans to make any more textured tops except the black TX. I asked him if I could custom order a good old 1778T. He said, of course, but that it could take as long as 6 months! I asked him what it would cost and he didn't have numbers for me.

I emailed Ovation and got this response:

"Hi Joe,
Unfortunately, this guitar is no longer being made. In order to get a custom one made, it needs to get the approval from top management at Ovation, and would likely cost upwards of $5,000. Let me know if this is something you are interested in pursuing, and I will try to get approval.

thanks!
Mike"

Thanks. Believe me, I would be bidding on them if I didn't already have the black one. I have the lusty red as well, and I'm looking for the only other color - pewter - but even then I do not know if they made it with the skinny neck. (I'm actually selling a pewter one with the regular neck).

I just confirmed that unless there is an exception out there, they never made a textured pewter 1778T with the slimmer neck and the OP-PRO. The textured pewter 1778T of old had the regular neck and the OP-30, and the new pewter 1778TX is glossy.

And yeah, who won this ebay black T? Inquiring minds want to know!

Well, I'd prefer that they come right out of the box set up perfectly for all my preferences (idiosyncrasies) (which I know is extreme dreaming) or to have been (just so you know that I'm not pointing fingers at anyone here) owned and adjusted by someone who understands guitars in general and Ovations in particular.
In lieu of those things, I would rather have something fresh from the factory, something that hasn't had its saddle sanded on a belt sander or had its truss rod spun around on the end of a Black and Decker drill.
